Mars Hydro TS1000 - any owners?

  1. Hi guys,

I replaced a 600w LED with a Mars Hydro TS1000 LED grow light, Ive had it going for around 3 and a half months now and my electricity bill is phenomenally high! At the 3 month mark it was around £1,500, which to me is insane!

just wondering if anybody else has one of these lights and wether or not that’s normal or high for an LED?
I always heard they were much more energy efficient and in turn costing less to run.
Which bills like that it’s not something with a gain much at all.

  2. Your "600 watt" LED was probably only pulling 100 watts from the wall, so a slight increase isn't surprising. That number is insane though. My electric bill has maybe been $40-50 per month more than usual and I'm running way more actual watts than you. Something doesn't add up.

  3. 540 watts actual power draw compared to 150 watts with the TS1000 and my bills are nothing like yours. [IMG]

  4. I’m running 1200 watts in flower and another 1000 watts in veg/autos. My bill is less than half yours.

  5. Ahhh man tell me about it my heart sank the moment I read the bill. I was furious!! I’ve read the TS1000 apparently throws out 148 actual watts, so does that seem way too high to you?! I genuinely thought I’d be paying that kind of money in a year...not 3 months!!

Has yours been $40 - $50 more than usual with everything included...the lights, fans etc? I just find it extremely hard to accept my intake fan, extraction fan, internal fan for air movement and the 1000w LED (148 actual watts) can throw out such a massive amount of power consumption?

  6. Yeah man, something is seriously wrong with the math. That's with ALL my stuff and I have four submersible pumps that run 24/7, 1/2HP chiller, giant air pump, extraction fan, four clamp fans, and an oscillating fan.

  7. Wow, that’s an impressive set up! I like it, a LOT! I’m super happy in not running that though hahaha!

yeah I’m completely lost with it, I do not understand it, I was never expecting that, by the time they’re ready for harvest even after it’s gone it’s not probably not worth it.

how much do you pay per KWH?

  8. Thank you. I love my new lights. I was using a TSL2000 (plus two of those four panels) previously and didn't experience anything crazy with the electric bill.

14.13¢/kWh is the average in Michigan. I don't pay much attention to the bill details, to be honest.

  9. Do you know how many watts your old 600W LED was actually drawing from the wall? If it's less than 150w then you're power consumption went up with the TS1000. But even with that something else is going on. That seems insane for a small setup like yours. What is your power rate?

Assuming a worst case scenario where you're somehow drawing 500W from the wall and it's running 24/7 you'd be using 360,000 W (360kwh) per month. At a rate of $0.20 per kwh you'd only be spending $72 a month.

  10. I'll just add that I have a TS1000 as well and it's not a 1000w HID replacement like they claim. After checked other HPS and MH bulbs it's equivalent to about a 400w MH/HPS.

  11. You might have someone like a neightbour who know you grow that steal your power. No way 1500 pound man I would unplug everything and call the power company.
(the ts 1000 itself is 150w and according to Marshydro it is a replacement for 250w HID)

  12. Thank you for your input I really appreciate it! Means a lot that the comments are just as baffled as I am as to why it’s costing so much!! It’s a bit colder where I am so of course there’s an internal heater also, but even with that I can not believe the cost of it all.

I at one point tried replacing the 600w LED with 2 HPS bulbs, fortunately it didn’t go too well so I sent them back and purchased the TS1000. In your experience with using one of the same lights as I currently am, would you say what I’m paying is still far far too much for what I’ve got? Bare in mind all I’m using is what I’ve stated in another comment, that is EVERYTHING.

Without sounding too personal...how much on average do you pay for your set up?

  13. You're using a space heater? On high, that can pull 1200 watts easy.

  14. I’d sure like to point fingers but unfortunately my neighbours are elderly law abiding citizens haha so I’d be more amazed to find out their stealing my electricity than the actual bill itself hahaha!

you’re right about what you’re saying with the actual light wattage, hence why my final resort was to ask you guys because I was blown away!! The reason I purchased LED rather than any other was purely for power consumption reasons and they’re telling me I’m using £300 a month?! That’s the kind of money I don’t think I’d ever make back from this in a 4x4 grow space!!

  15. That's not really enough light for that space either. You'd need four of them to flower that space well. Even with that many, your bill shouldn't come anywhere near that.

  16. I’m using a real small fan heater...which I don’t doubt they can use a lot? I first had it on a low setting but kind of figured that if I put it up a high setting it’ll be on for less time? What do you suggest for heating? Unfortunately I live in a colder area so it’s needed for sure.

  17. Check the sticker on the heater and see what it's rated at. How often/how long is it on? If you have a modern, efficient furnace, it's probably more efficient to just turn up the heat...unless you're in a garage, basement, or something like that?

  18. I did want to invest in another one as they’re smart lights and from I’ve read not bad at all for an LED, however after I seen my bill I just couldn’t bring myself to adding more cost to that!
So basically, asking you... with the internal heater, the fans, the LED light etc...it shouldn’t come anywhere near what I’m paying?

  19. With Samsung LED;s that are the most efficient Know to man , I don't understand why everyone isn't buying them ?

  20. I looked for one (small heater) last fall but smaller are like 240w. That is the ones that are as small as my hands. Anyway 1500 pound is insane I would freak out no money for that!!!
