Marijuana vs Hyperhidrosis

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by Bloodstorm, Feb 2, 2011.

1. Hi there.

I have a question regarding Marijuana in for the form of medical purposes, I suffer from Hyperhidrosis (which is excessive sweating.) I have been to my local GP in search of a cure or something that can atleast prevent the sweating, she told me about various options, ranging from botox injections every few months, an operation I could do (which is apparently quite dangerous) as well as using an anti-persperant with high contents of Aluminium Chlordie (which I currently use under my arms and it works perfectly.)

The situation at the moment is that every other part of my body is still sweating excessively, I do not wish to pay large sums of money for frequent Botox injections nor take the risk of having an operation. I have recently done some research into the use of Marijuana to fight the sweating caused by Hyperhidrosis and I have tested it myself, I have now been smoking Marijuana for the last three years and it is working perfectly for me. My concern comes in where I may get in trouble with the police or even perhaps face prosection if caught.

My question simply is, would there be any possible way for me to obtain some kind of licence/document allowing me to legally (unpunishbly smoke Marijuana to help me with the adverse affects of Hyperhidrosis ?

Thank you for you time and I look forward to a response.

2. How much do you weigh?

3. I weigh 80 kgs but I am quite tall, so I am not fat or overweight, im 1.89m tall (I used to weigh 110, the Hyperhidrosis has been there for as long as I can remember)

Where are you, hon? It really makes a big difference! If you are in Canada, there is only a very slim chance you can get legal. If you are in California, just bring in your medical records and you walk out legal! :D

Since you mentioned your height and weight in metric measurements, I am assuming you are not a Californian! (Most of them only know that a kilo is 2.2 pounds, an ounce is 28.3 grams and how big 2 liters is, but beyond cannabis measuring and sodas, they just don't use it!)

Frankly, most countries will not let you use this effective medicinal herb. You are, most likely, out of luck. Sorry! :(

So get a copy of my list (1st link in my sig) and start educating yourself, then others! Education is the road to legalization! Send articles from my list to your local politicians, friends and relatives and, of course, your doctors! The more people who know what cannabis can do, the better!

I wish I had some studies to give you, but I haven't run across any yet! Cannabis does lower the body's temperature, which might help, but I just haven't seen anything on your condition and cannabis.

5. I am from Cape Town in South Africa...I dont think we have Medical Marijuana here =(

Its such a pity....I was considering taking it up with a lawyer or something to try and get a court to try and approve of my use...it really really does help, immensely...It goes from being a hater of the sun and summer (as it gets extremely hot in my country) to making me someone who wants to be outside and enjoy the sun (as the sun rays do not make my body "overheat" and produce and insane amount of sweat...)

6. Still no further responses to this ? At the moment I've had to stop my usage of marijuana as the family believes that I have become an "addict" and am "addicted to it." I tried to reason with them by explaining my situation and that it helps me to the point where my life is just so much better as a whole. Im lucky at the moment because its winter now and its quite cold and im also using a perscribed anti-perspirant at the moment to stop the under arm persistant sweating (which is there regardless of the weather conditions)

My only fear currently is that as soon as it gets back to summer, I wont be able to function normally again due to the amount of sweating that summer brings...

Anyone have any ideas as to a website or someone I could get in contact with to find out more about this in my own country ? (South Africa)

7. So glad i found this. i have had hyperhydrosis for the past 8 years since i was in 8th grade. i live in Northern California so it is quite cold here but i still sweat 24/7, i sweat all day every day and you can visibly see my hands and feet sweating. every time i do a test and the paper has water damage and sometimes cant be read. i have short circuited some electronics and have slipped once on my tile floor because of all the excess sweat. i have only dated 1 girl and we never held hands because of all the excess sweat. i also have had job interviews where the employer is obviously disgusted by my hand sweating. i have tried three medications and nothing has worked. 2 years ago i started smoking marijuana and every time i smoke my hands immediately quit sweating for the next 4-8 hours and is my only relief. however i am unable to smoke enough to disable the sweat glands all day but i do it now before any public event i have to attend. i am curently trying to find a doctor who accepts my disease and am trying to isolate whether CBD or THC are the triggers.

8. To my knowledge Marijuana is usually smoked as a cigarette (joint) or in a pipe. It is aswell smoked in blunts, which are cigars that acquire been emptied of tobacco and refilled with a admixture of marijuana and tobacco. This access of accumulation combines marijuana's animate accommodation with nicotine and added adverse chemicals. Marijuana can aswell be adulterated in aliment or brewed as a tea. As a added concentrated, adhering form, it is declared hashish; and as a adhering atramentous liquid, array oil. Marijuana smoke has a acerbic and distinctive, usually sweet-and-sour odor.

9. I thought that I was the only one who is smoking pot to stop my excessive sweating! I have had really bad sweating from hands and feet for many years - since high school and the only thing that actually stop them sweating completely is smoking pot. Unfortunately, I live in Australia and there is no way that I am able to use it without breaking the law...
I've also had friends and family judge me as an addict for smoking, I've had to quit actually:( And am now looking into botox as the solution :( :(
It is really crazy that something as safe and natural as marijuana is illegal while injecting the most poisonous substance known to man is perfectly fine!

10. i hope the users are still active members here. I am suffering with hyperhydrosis and I have never tried weed. Please share more experiences insights on this topic.

Found something that is related to hyperhydrosis- Just read the italics!

Endocannabinoids regulate growth and survival of human eccrine sweat gland-derived epithelial cells. (Endocannabinoids control the growth and survival of sweat gland cells)

The functional existence of the emerging endocannabinoid system (ECS), one of the new neuroendocrine players in cutaneous biology, is recently described in the human skin.

There is a functioning ECS in human skin and it is opening up all sorts of new stuff for us! :D

In this study, using human eccrine sweat gland-derived immortalized NCL-SG3 model cells and a wide array of cellular and molecular assays, we investigated the effects of prototypic endocannabinoids (anandamide, 2-arachidonoylglycerol) on cellular functions.

In this study, we used “cultured in a test tube” sweat gland cells and looked at the effects of anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) (your body’s versions of THC).

We show here that both endocannabinoids dose-dependently suppressed proliferation, induced apoptosis, altered expressions of various cytoskeleton proteins (e.g., cytokeratins), and upregulated lipid synthesis.

Here we show that AEA and 2-AG slowed the growth of sweat cells, caused them to die, and messed up their biochemistry. More worked better!

Interestingly, as revealed by specific agonists and antagonists as well as by RNA interference, neither the metabotropic cannabinoid receptors (CB) nor the "ionotropic" CB transient receptor potential ion channels, expressed by these cells, mediated the cellular actions of the endocannabinoids.

Oddly, when we blocked the usual CB receptors that AEA and 2-AG activate with “antagonist” chemicals, we found that these receptors didn’t control what happened to the cells. :confused_2:

However, the endocannabinoids selectively activated the mitogen-activated protein kinase signaling pathway.

However, we found that AEA and 2-AG also activate other “pathways” that control cell death, cell division and more.

Finally, other elements of the ECS (i.e., enzymes involved in the synthesis and degradation of endocannabinoids) were also identified on NCL-SG3 cells.

Finally, we found the enzymes that control the making and breakdown of AEA and 2-AG on the sweat gland cells that we used.

These results collectively suggest that cannabinoids exert a profound regulatory role in the biology of the appendage.

These results suggest that the cannabinoids have a huge effect on how sweat glands work!

Therefore, from a therapeutic point of view, upregulation of endocannabinoid levels might help to manage certain sweat gland-derived disorders (e.g., tumors) characterized by unwanted growth.

Therefore, from a medical viewpoint, increasing the levels of AEA and 2-AG might help to manage some sweat gland problems (tumors as an example) caused by unwanted growth.

OK, that shows that sweat glands ARE affected by cannabinoids! I am wondering if your guys have low levels of AEA and/or 2-AG. The reason using cannabis helps is that THC can “fill in” for your endocannabinoids, thus normalizing your endocannabinoid levels.

In another, unrelated, study of a CB receptor blocker, hyperhidrosis is listed as a side effect, which again, suggests your endocannabinoid levels may be low. You may find these to be interesting. The first one is sort of an intro to the second one.

So what can you guys do? Take Omega 3 (fish oil, flax seed oil, hemp seed oil) to keep your CB receptors healthy. (Just trust me on this or this REALLY gets long!)

I know it seems counter intuitive, but exercise might actually help your condition! Exercise has been shown to raise AEA levels. :hello:

Which is why exercise can reduce the craving for cannabis. :hello:
