Marijuana for GAD/nausea?

  1. Hi everyone, I am new to the board.

I live in Oregon and I'm interested in getting medical marijuana to help relieve my stress and anxiety. I have been seeing a therapist for this and was diagnosed with GAD by my last therapist (same clinic). I have noticed that small amounts of indica strains help me to relax, and I want to be able to get these strains reliably.

However, I am unsure how difficult it might be to be prescribed marijuana for this. I have heard that it can be given for anxiety, although I also understand there is some debate on the issue.

My therapist knows that I used to smoke a lot of pot a few years ago and didn't seem particularly enthusiastic about the idea (she didn't seem against it, either). Also, I have never seen a psychiatrist or been put on anxiety meds. I'm not really sure if marijuana is prescribed only when other methods have not worked (would I need to try anxiety medication first?) or if this is irrelevant.

To my understanding, the MMJ clinic here requires the doctors (my therapists) forms to be sent and then they are reviewed with another doctor who is more specialized with cannabis use, or something like that. I'm not really sure if this is something I should bring up with my therapist before sending the forms; I'm afraid she might be opposed to the idea but I'm not really sure. I'm not sure how the process works.

So I guess I am wondering what my chances might be for getting marijuana for this. I just don't want to pay the fee for the appointment and have it not work out.

Plan B would be to try to get it for nausea. This is documented in my medical records at my doctors office. My nausea isn't severe, but it's been an ongoing problem. I'm not sure if it would only be prescribed for certain things like for cancer patients or something that's actually diagnosed.

    Thoughts?

Btw I'm in Portland if this is at all helpful.

Usually the Dr wants to see paperwork diagnosing your condition before prescribing MMJ. It's somewhat of a safety precaution for them. That way nobody can claim they are writing false prescriptions because the condition has already been observed by someone outside the MMJ community.

What you do is go to your regular DR or therapist and get diagnosed. Then ask for a copy of your medical records and take those to the MMJ Dr when you do to your appointment. I bet you could get a rec for the nausea problems that are already documented. If not, the Dr I go to issues temporary recommendations until you can bring in all your paper work. So if they said your nausea wasn't enough, you could work on getting the therapist paper work you need.

Okay, thanks...it sounds like in Oregon you need to see the doctor about it at least three times (??) but the mmj clinic I want to go to requires papers that are a year current. I'll probably have to go back to my doc because although I've complained about nausea numerous times it may have been over a year since we really talked about it.

So I guess I'll just request them to send the papers to myself and go from there? Will I have needed to see the doc for it 3 times in the one year period?

    Thanks...

also I think I'm going to try to get it for the nausea because it's on the list of things in Oregon. (although it would be for my anxiety too). unless someone here thinks I could get it for the anxiety.

another thing I'm not sure about is if it didn't get approved the first time if I would have to pay again for the mama appointment. I should call them but anyone know about this?

  4. If your nausea was nonexistant before you started smoking it may be due to Cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome and with continued daily use the symtoms may get worse.

  5. Please review the "do you qualify" sticky thread and if you still have questions ask in there.

    Thanks
