Maple sap instead of molasses?

  1. Hey GC.

I was thinking, I have plenty of Maple trees around, and I know plenty of people who tap theirs. So my question is, would there be something that makes molasses better than maple sap? Because if not, I know sap would be easier to stir in, and 100% organic.

Maple sap is high in Potassium & Calcium like unsulphured blackstrap molasses and contains all of the same nutrients in similar proportions. The two most important differences are that Blackstrap molasses is roughly ten times as concentrated, and that the nutrient levels in the sap from various maples will vary considerably.

I don't know how easily it will mix in water compared to the molasses or how using ten times as much will affect the soil.

  3. Hm. Thanks, I shall think on it some more haha.

  4. The only real test would be to do side by sides with a microscope, but if i had to guess, then I bet that maple sap would work perfectly fine.

Just my thought. We do sap/sugar here as well.

  5. If you can spare a plant try a side by side comparison.
