Male flower on female plant?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by 420botanyboy, Oct 16, 2018.

  1. Hey, so i noticed today that near the base of one of my plants that i LST, there was a male flower. Hasnt opened yet, but only 1 flower. The plant is for sure female, and all the buds at the top look pure female. Is it normal to get one male flower? Do i pluck it off or will that encourage more male flowers to grow? It is a Jack Herer Auto-Fem. Thanks all

  2. Feminized Seeds are genetically predisposed to Hermaphroditism due to the very process that gives you feminized seeds. Not a big deal just pinch it off and carry on.
Regular seeds are free of this trouble but are a bit more work sorting the boys out.

  3. Check for light leaks you.have a hermie

  4. It may be a calyx. Post a pic. I have seen many noobs nipping off female parts thinking it's a male flower. It very well may be a hermie. But without a pic it tough to be 100% sure on our end.

  5. Ill post a pick tomorrow, but i am almost positive it is a male flower. It has a stem behind the bud. And no hairs. Could this one flower pollinate the plant? Is it worth allowing it to pollinate part of this plant with hand pollination to get seed? Or being it is pollen from the same plant would that cause sterilization in the seeds (no germination)?

  6. Be careful plucking that off to make sure no pollen falls out. I would advise against trying to seed it intentionally if it has already shown hermaphrodism..

  7. Why? What happens if you get the seeds? Do they produce messed up plants? Lol

  8. They'll produce plants which are likely to hermaphrodite easily and you can end up with more seeds than bud in your future grows, so yes, "messed up plants" is about right

  9. Ah okay i dont want that haha. Pinching it off wont trigger it to prodjce more male flowers?

  10. Would it make hermies if i pollinated another plant with it?

  11. Maybe, maybe not. It depends how easily and what triggers it. This varies between plants

It will make offspring that shares its genetic traits. The new plants will resemble their parents. If a parent has a predisposition to throw out male flowers, then there is a fair chance those genes will be passed on to the seeds it makes

  12. Ah okay. I just decided to try pinching it off. Thanks guys!
