    G'day all,
I tried making RSO for the first time last night. I started with 22 Oz's of leaf, 3 Oz's head, & about 9 Oz's of stem from 6 x Big Bud x White Widow plants. I used 18 Lt's of 99% ISO for the Oil I intended to make. I have seen various Vid's on the making of RSO and decided that as time is no issue, that i would reduce the ISO naturally, by using 2 fans to blow ambient air onto the oil as it's summer here presently.

What i awoke to this morning is not oil. It's closer to a clump of grease. It weighted 29.3 grams. I tried smoking a small spot and it tasted of ISO. Is there any way of taking this back to oil, or how do I further reduce the ISO considering it is a clump? I have no access to a vacuum setup.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

  2. you need the coffee warmer step to reduce the solvent with a low heat... this step supposedly decarboxylates too but that is questionable . have you watched the video = run from the cure ? Rick Simpson vid

  3. unfortunately you will need to use some heat to purge all the iso out. Vacuum oven would be the best way. the main thing is that ISO is evaporating as you are purging so you do not want any open flames and or sparks when purging. Since you do not have a vacuum oven i would say double boiling would be the second best method. Here's a video of someone doing the similar thing

  4. I'm pretty sure you are not supposed to smoke RSO.

@BrassNwood can you shed some light on this?

  5. Not recommended for smoking or vaping due to the lipids, and fats, and chlorophyll. It tastes like caca when vaped. Use it topically or eat it works best.

  6. ISO extracts are technically should not to be smoked due to the residual solvents still in the extract, but if you purge it enough to where the ISO is at least under 1000 ppm, it is safe to consume as per old heath Canada regulations(the regulations were 5000 ppm but 1000 ppm is safer). Most ISO extracts are intended for creating other products i.e Brownies, cookies, candies and so on. Of all extraction methods ISO is one of the worst to smoke. Here is a list of health Canada's residual solvents and the limits in parts per million. Limits for Residual Solvents in Cannabis Products - Canada.ca

  7. I make lots of RSO from the scrap bud material left after my Kief extraction. Since I gift much of it to cancer and other immune system compromised folk I simply will NOT use a toxic solvent in my work.
ISO and Denatured alcohol are both toxic solvents and hard to get clean enough as they all have solvent trapped in the tar.
Only Drinking grade Ethanol should be used for human consumption. Vaping-smoking ethyl alcohol is no more harmful then drinking it is so be safe and only use drinking grade booze for this.
Same with edibles. Do you really want to be consuming a known toxic solvent when for a few pennies more you could have used a completely safe solvent ?

Using a 3 gallon pot still I recover virtually all the alcohol I use now so only the initial up front cost will hurt.

Started with about 3 gallons dry measure decarbed bud scraps.
