making GOOD keif

    hey i'm about 2 months away from harvest, and want to learn how to make keif, so i know what i'm doing when the time comes. i know there are probably different ways of doing it, but i'm after a specific result... one time my buddy had some keif, and it looked exactly like a light green coke rock (not crack, just coke, but in a rock form) it was hard and dense like coke too, you would probably need a knife or razor blade to chop off the amount you wanted to smoke......does anyone know a method of making keif, so it turns out like this??

    After you finish curing your bud, you can get kief by either grinding it or using a kief box. If you have a quality metal grinder, throw that shit in the freezer for a few hours before you grind your herb to increase your kief yield significantly. As for a rock of kief, you can then take your finely powdered kief and compress it using a tool or in a tube or even with your fingers.

    depends on what kind of keif your looking to make. Real good keif is made from bud, not the leaf/stem. U can do both and you will taste the diff.

    look in any head shop for a grinder thats got a fine mesh screen at the bottom of it, and a catch basin. basic concept is keif is bud/leaf or the crystals/hairs all mashed up and compressed.

    If your workin with a lot of material get a 12" x 12" piece of fine mesh SS screen. Build a frame out of anything that you have laying around... 1x4 inch strips of pine or fir will do. Cut 8 of them 12" long. Make 2 squares. Attach screen to bottom of one square ( staples/nails - no glue ). Attach a 12"x12" square ( pref. plastic or other non porus material ) to bottom of second box so you have a catch basin. Attach the 2 boxes togeather using latches or slide locks.
    Grind your material ( cheap coffee grinder, NEW or used. just clean it out first ) The finer the grind, the darker the keif. the finer the screen, the lighter the keif. I myself use a coarse ground material on a superfine stainless steel screen.

    Sift your material. Shake it till your damn tired and have smoked at least 2 numbers. What ever didnt fall thru the screen, smoke that too.

    Take the sifted material and pack it into PVC tubing with an end cap on one side. NO GLUED PIECES.JUST SCREW CAPS AND THREADED PIPE. I mean pack it, smash it, and compress it like hell. I use large diameter PVC and a wooden dowl. I pound the dowl in with a rubber mallet. Your making a log. Unscrew end cap, wrap log in good quality restaurant cellophane. NOT CHEAP CLING WRAP. I put log back into tube of PVC w/ 2 end caps... NO GLUED PIECES, just get screw caps/ threaded pipe.. Bake in low temp ( lowest setting, 150-175 degrees F ) Check hardness. U may need to re-bake till you feel happy. LET COOL ( dont put in freezer ). Open, unwrapp and enjoy!

    cool..thanks for the replies.......i think i'll try that thing with the pvc pipe. then i'll make a shaker box, with screen and put all the leaves and leftovers from my harvest and shake all the crystals out....don't think i'll use any buds though, maybe a little bit. if you put it in the oven, that won't make it lose potency will it???

    Go to a local screen printing shop and get a screen from them. i got one for like 20 bucks. it will already have a frame on it and everything. ask for some where between 110 and 160 strands/inch. 160 being finer keif. you don't want any of the plant to get through the screen because it makes the keif less potent. your pile should be a blonde color. the greener it is the more plant and less keif therefore less potent.

    As for pressing it there are a million different ways. it sounds like you just want your keif pressed and not hash. personally i would just use the keif to make hash. in that case the pvc idea mentioned earlier will work or you can buy a poll press. i got one at my local head shop for about 30 bucks. it's just a metal tube with two polls that slide in each end and then a cap that presses the polls together. if you want to do it with out spending money just hand press it. pile it up in the palm of your hand and press it with your thumb till it sticks together. then ball it up and keep pressing till it turns black, anywhere from 10 to 30 min. depending on how pure the keif is. hope this helps.
