Making caps from RSO/Concentrate

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by Robindean, Oct 23, 2022.

  1. So, unless its the way badkat or brass does theirs....
RSO and distillate (already bought..dispo) why do we need oils when its lecithin (soy or sunflower, exclusively the liquid as they have fat) to help bio and thc absorption....what then is the need for oil?
Even decarbed concentrates should mix right in.
i ask as I now have a cap #1 maker and waiting for the capsules. Fill with rso then fill with lecithin cap and...???
or because the coconut would go back to a solid and thus reduce capsule deterioration?

  2. Using coconut oil as a carrier speeds up absorbstion greatly due to the fact that coconut oil contains MCT's (medium chain triglycerides) which are already small enough for the body to use without having to break them down further. Instead of having to wait for the full digestion process, MCT's are sent directly to the liver...along with what they are carrying.

  3. Ive wondered that myself, but have never tried using just lecithin and decarbed thc. I guess try it and see.

Here is a study that shows how important adding lipids are to capsules. (Spoiler alert 2.5 times increase in bioavailability)
Dietary fats and pharmaceutical lipid excipients increase systemic exposure to orally administered cannabis and cannabis-based medicines

  4. The Oil is the Carrier and the Lecithin is the enhancer.
lecithin or coconut oil - Google Search

Most all the sites say much the same thing. Powder and granular Lecithin is only 10% Oil and makes a lousy carrier. Even the Liquid version is only 20 to 30% oil. I've tested much higher ratios then the roughly 20% we use and it is a case of diminishing returns. To high a Lecithin to Oil ratio and you get less bang from the concoction. At 50% x 50% I could already feel a loss of strength.

By all means test it for your self but I suspect your findings will be much like my own. As I use it for pain control I tried a lot of combinations when I started using BadKats recipe and since she was still present on the site when I joined I was able to converse with her directly on increasing the Lecithin.

    Decarb as and if needed
    Blend Cannabis, Oil and Lecithin.
    Process 220 F for 10 or 20 Minutes
    Done.

This binds all the bits together. For our purposes 10 to 20% Lecithin to Oil seems to be the sweet spot and that is what the Kat recipe works out to.
    2 1/2 teaspoons of Oil
    1/2 teaspoon Lecithin.
