Makeshift 18.8 to 14.5

Discussion in 'Smoking Accessories Q&A' started by eGLuna, Feb 25, 2016.

  1. I bought a bong and It's got an 18.8 to 18.8 downstem. I have an ashcatcher that I used for a previous bong that had an 18.8 to 14.5 downstem. The old downstem I don't think is long enough to use in my bong so how can I adapt the male end of the ashcatcher to fit in the new downstem? I was thinking duct tape around it until it's roughly 18.8 and fits, unless someone's got a better solution.

  2. I was messing around one day and found out that some disposable water bottle lids fit perfectly, airtight, on my roor downstems. Kind of cool since half my slides are 14mm so now I can use them on my favorite piece.

I would just try a few different styles of plastic lids and see if any work for you.

Duct tape would work too, or buy a glass adaptor...sublimator has teflon(i think) ones that would also work.

  3. I was planning on buying a glass adapter. I didn't event think about bottle lids. Thanks, man.

  4. Id wrap Teflon tape around the male end of your ashcatcher until it's the right size

  5. That's a good idea but I'm not sure it's worth buying a roll of the stuff from the store when I have duct tape at home, especially with it being a pretty temporary fix until I buy a glass adapter.

  6. Yea Teflon tape would be my first choice. Any tape will work in your situation though

  7. No duct tape or bottle lids, too much heat, and you'll end up with poisonous plastic smoke or at the least plastic particles in your smoke.

If you want to go the DIY route, use paper or something, but really if you want to use your 14.5 ash catcher, just buy a new down stem that's long enough. I usually don't advise spending money first, but I've dealt with this issue before and there's no easy fix
