  7. White Widows: Gave them a haircut, to open up center for airflow. These girls are taking their sweet time. Expect to go 12:12 by 5/21.

  8. My first attempt at mainlining, I just pruned this plant today. Do I need to give her a couple of days to recover before I tie down the two mains at 90 degree angles to the fan leaves?

Nope, but dont go for full bend right away (nugbuckets brags about being rough with them when bending, when you break one you’ll see that’s stupid).

Start pulling them over slightly, with whatever you’re using (twist ties, wire, rubber bands, etc), touching just below leaves on main. Pull a little tighter at end of day, then tomorrow morning, and so on until they are about horizontal. Leave them tied until they harden in desired position.

Next toppings on odd node number, odd nodes give correct positioning for next pair of mains.

I like to top at 1st or 3rd node (except first topping). I let them grow out a couple nodes beyond where i plan to cut, building roots and giving new mains a chance to get started. If you keep tops at same height (by adjusting tiedowns) there is no need to grow more nodes than necessary during topping phase.

My objective is to have the mjnimum number of nodes possible during the topping phase, for the grow space the plant is in.

If you need more nodes in order to get lateral distance, add them after final topping.

Below 12:12 ht, I remove all growing tips EXCEPT AT END OF MAINS, as soon as i can safely access them. I leave all fan leaves on (assuming no humidity/powdery mildew issues) until topping phase is complete, then thin out as leaves become 100% shaded, starting at base of plant.

  10. OK, great advice. I used soft ties and got the training started as you can see in the pic, each day I will tighten it up a bit until we get to horizontal. Then I have to wait until the mains grow past the 3rd node again so I can top and get to 4 mainfolds. I already have a tomato cage that I cut down to size so its ready to insert once the plant gets tall enough and the mains need more support.

    Great

One thing i found that minimizes breaking new mains is to tie the main and its associated fanleaf, instead of just the main.

  12. Interesting, I have not read that before but it sure makes sense! Right now the stem looks pretty solid so I will let it be, but when I have to tie down the next set of mains I will definitely use that method if the stems look a bit thin.

  13. Not a ton of smell yet one lady is just starting to smell of strawberries and my lemon is starting to smell more like lemon pledge lol
