Lyrics That Changed/Saved Your Life. Me? Pearl Jam - Indifference

Discussion in 'General' started by The Big C, Apr 8, 2007.

  1. Hi All

Sitting here with a few smokes and some tunes (right now Pearl Jam - Nothing As It Seems). Just have to mention when TEN was released, Fuck it blew me away. I remember first hearing Pearl Jam's - Indifference (I used to buy every PJ album the day it came out but I think they loosin their way a bit Musically. Subject matter is still as good!) and hearing it in my Darkest moments I remeber sayin to myself, I would do ALL those things and I DO, do them for the people I truly love but in different ways...e.g. listening to someones shit that is in their life and helping them, giving someone you love a hug for no other reason than that you LOVE them be it your Ma, Da, brother, sister, friend etc......
Do you know what, I had a fuckin SHIT childhood with a nasty, spiteful, psycho alcholic Ma and a unaffectionate father (if that the right word??) but do you know what??? Songs like this reminded me I was a good person with a good heart no matter how much shit I had to deal with!

Anyone that wants to post a song that kept them going, changed your life etc... Post Please!!

    Thanks All

    Pearl Jam - Indifference Lyrics

\ti will light the match this mornin', so i won't be alone
watch as she lies silent, for soon light will be gone
i will stand arms outstretched, pretend i'm free to roam
i will make my way, through, one more day in hell...
how much difference does it make
how much difference does it make...
i will hold the candle till it burns up my arm
i'll keep takin' punches until their will grows tired
i will stare the sun down until my eyes go blind
hey i won't change direction, and i won't change my mind
how much difference does it make
how much difference does it make..
    how much difference...
i'll swallow poison, until i grow immune
i will scream my lungs out till it fills this room
    how much difference
    how much difference
how much difference does it make
how much difference does it make...

  2. Rock n' Roll suicide by David Bowie.

During my year of depression i never heard a song i could relate to as much as it. Plus the lyrics did have a kind of up-lifting message, which was exactly what i needed. "You're not alone!"

    lyrics:

Time takes a cigarette, puts it in your mouth
You pull on your finger, then another finger, then your
    cigarette
The wall-to-wall is calling, it lingers, then you forget
    Ohhh, you're a rock 'n' roll suicide

You're too old to lose it, too young to choose it

And the clock waits so patiently on your song
You walk past a cafe but you don't eat when you've lived
    too long
Oh, no, no, no, you're a rock 'n' roll suciide

Chev brakes are snarling as you stumble across the road

But the day breaks instead so you hurry home
Don't let the sun blast your shadow
Don't let the milk float ride your mind
You're so natural - religiously unkind

Oh no love! you're not alone
You're watching yourself but you're too unfair
You got your head all tangled up but if I could only make you care
Oh no love! you're not alone
No matter what or who you've been
No matter when or where you've seen
All the knives seem to lacerate your brain
I've had my share, I'll help you with the pain
    You're not alone

  3. Under the Bridge- Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I know he meant the song about drugs, but he also said in this one video in the funky monks documentary, that he thinks every drug addict feels this feeling of loneliness, etc etc.

I had the most depressing year of my life this year and this song helped me, its probably my favorite song in the world along with Soul to squeeze.

  4. Dropkick Murphys- Sunshine Highway

Oasis- Don't Look Back in Anger

  5. Big L- We can never be a couple hun/Fuck love all i got for hoes is hard dick and bubble gum

That line alone changed the way i acted towards girls in the past. Cant say that now since i do love my lady but i still have a lil bit of that mentality

Blaze one cuz i am =]

  6. Alot of Wu Tang has changed how I think. The song "Tearz stands out in my mind. The chorus of " After, Laughter, Tears." Explains alot of shit, and things are balanced out. Raekwons Only Built For Cuban Links makes me want to strive to perfection and have wealth, at the top of what ever career I choose.

  7. "Ramble On" - Led Zeppelin

Leaves are falling all around, It's time I was on my way.
Thanks to you, I'm much obliged for such a pleasant stay.
But now it's time for me to go. The autumn moon lights my way.
For now I smell the rain, and with it pain, and it's headed my way.
Sometimes I grow so tired, but I know I've got one thing I got to do...

Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Got no time to for spreadin' roots, The time has come to be gone.
And to' our health we drank a thousand times, it's time to Ramble On.

Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Mine's a tale that can't be told, my freedom I hold dear.
How years ago in days of old, when magic filled the air.
T'was in the darkest depths of Mordor, I met a girl so fair.
But Gollum, and the evil one crept up and slipped away with her, her, her....yeah.

Ramble On, And now's the time, the time is now, to sing my song.
I'm goin' 'round the world, I got to find my girl, on my way.
I've been this way ten years to the day, Ramble On,
Gotta find the queen of all my dreams.

Gonna ramble on, sing my song. Gotta keep-a-searchin' for my baby...
Gonna work my way, round the world. I can't stop this feelin' in my heart
Gotta keep searchin' for my baby. I can't find my bluebird!

This song pretty much describes my life and way of life. When, I first heard it oh so long ago, I instantly knew it was my life's soundtrack. :)

  8. "Blue Sky" by Mantra

"Walk along the river, sweet lullaby, it just keeps on flowin, it dont worry about where its goin, no no

Dont fly Mr. Bluebird i'm just walking down the road, early morning sunshine, tell me all i need to know, yeah yeah

Your my Bluesky, your my sunny day, lord you know it makes me high when you turn your love my way, turn your love my way."

I swear by this song, I heard it the first time on shrooms and my play count on my iPod is well over 2,000. Its a 7 minute 11 second song, so I've listened to this song technically for 9.8 days straight. It never gets old, you can't go wrong with this.

P.S - Mantra covered the Allman Brothers song, Bluesky. But its a mad sick cover.

  9. "Changes" by David Bowie always kind of inspired me. "Time may change me, but I can't change time..." Was the most prolific line, I think. It represented a regret-free life to me. It told me to grow some balls and get over the shit I got myself into, perhaps not with others or with the world, but with myself, emotionally and throughout my life.

  10. Every damn song that Sublime has ever done. No joke.

Theyre message changed my whole outlook on life. Its really hard to explane but ever sence i REALLY started listening to sublime and understand what theyre saying, it fliped my mind 180*.

And that is why im getting this giant Sublime Tattoo on my back this summer :D I fucking love it.

  11. i would have to say the whole 'mellon collie and the infinite sadness' album by the smashing pumpkins. but one song that really lifted my spirit was thirty three.

    thirty three

Speak to me in a language I can hear
Humor me before I have to go
Deep in thought I forgive everyone
As the cluttered streets greet me once again
I know I can't be late, supper's waiting on the table
    Tomorrow's just an excuse away
So I pull my collar up and face the cold, on my own
The earth laughs beneath my heavy feet
At the blasphemy in my old jangly walk
Steeple guide me to my heart and home
The sun is out and up and down again
I know I'll make it, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
And you can make it last, forever you
You can make it last, forever you
And for a moment I lose myself
Wrapped up in the pleasures of the world
I've journeyed here and there and back again
But in the same old haunts I still find my friends
    Mysteries not ready to reveal
    Sympathies I'm ready to return
I'll make the effort, love can last forever
Graceful swans of never topple to the earth
    Tomorrow's just an excuse
And you can make it last, forever you
You can make it last, forever you

this song makes me cry of joy

  12. RISE AGAINST-"Swing Life Away"

Am I loud and clear, or am I breaking up?
Am I still your charm, or am I just bad luck?
Are we getting closer, or are we just getting more lost?

I'll show you mine if you show me yours first
Let's compare scars, I'll tell you whose is worse
Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words

We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand

I've been here so long, I think that it's time to move
The winter's so cold, summer's over too soon
Let's pack our bags and settle down where palm trees grow

I've got some friends, some that I hardly know
But we've had some times, I wouldn't trade for the world
We chase these days down with talks of the places that we will go

We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand....until you hold my hand

I'll show you mine if you show me yours first
Let's compare scars, I'll tell you whose is worse
Let's unwrite these pages and replace them with our own words

We live on front porches and swing life away,
We get by just fine here on minimum wage
If love is a labor I'll slave till the end,
I won't cross these streets until you hold my hand

Modest Mouse - Ocean Breathes Salty

Your body may be gone, I'm gonna carry you in.
In my head, in my heart, in my soul.
And maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both live again.
    Well I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. Don't think so.

Well that is that and this is this.
You tell me what you want and I'll tell you what you get.
You get away from me. You get away from me.
Collected my belongings and I left the jail.
Well thanks for the time, I needed to think a spell.
I had to think awhile. I had to think awhile.

The ocean breathes salty, won't you carry it in?
In your head, in your mouth, in your soul.
And maybe we'll get lucky and we'll both grow old.
    Well I don't know. I don't know. I don't know. I hope so.

Well that is that and this is this.
You tell me what you want and I'll tell you what you get.
You get away from me. You get away from me.
Collected my belongings and I left the jail.
Well thanks for the time, I needed to think a spell.
I had to think awhile. I had to think awhile.

Well that is that and this is this.
Will you tell me what you saw and I'll tell you what you missed,
when the ocean met the sky.
You missed when time and life shook hands and said goodbye.
When the earth folded on itself.
And said "Good luck, for your sake I hope heaven and hell
are really there, but I wouldn't hold my breath."
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste death?

The ocean breathes salty, won't you carry it in?
In your head, in your mouth, in your soul.
The more we move ahead the more we're stuck in rewind.
Well I don't mind. I don't mind. How the hell could I mind?

Well that is that and this is this.
You tell me what you want and I'll tell you what you get.
You get away from me. You get away from me.

Well that is that and this is this.
Will you tell me what you saw and I'll tell you what you missed,
when the ocean met the sky.
You wasted life, why wouldn't you waste the afterlife?

  13. untitled #2 off of "Niandra Lades and Usually just a T-shirt"
    by John Frusciante.
in my opinion the best musician in the world. literally saved my life, more than once.

  14. Sometimes when I hear American Pie I cry, other times I just jam.

    Hendrix just melts my mind

  15. Morrissey - Why Don't You Find Out For Yourself

    The sanest days are mad
Why don't you find out for yourself
    Then you'll see the price
    Very closely

    Some men here
They have a special interest in your career
They want to help you to grow
And then siphon all your dough
Why don't you find out for yourself
    Then you'll see the glass
    Hidden in the grass

    You'll never believe me, so
Why don't you find out for yourself
    Sick down to my heart
That's just the way it goes

    Some men here
They know the full extent of your distress
They kneel and pray and they say
    "Long may it last"
Why don't you find out for yourself
    Then you'll see the glass
    Hidden in the grass

    Bad scenes come and go
    For which you must allow
    Sick down to my heart
That's just the way it goes

    Don't rake up my mistakes
I know exactly what they are
    And what do you do
    Well you just sit there
I've been stabbed in the back so many, many times
    I don't have any skin
But that's just the way it goes

  16. Bill Frisell, basically everything he's ever recorded. It wasn't until I got into him that I really got serious about my own practicing. Totally changed my playing/life.

  17. a lot of the beatles influenced me as i was growing up and still does today, as a musician. Most notably is "Let it Be":

When I find myself in times of trouble
    Mother Mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the broken hearted people
    Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.

For though they may be parted
There is still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.

Let it be, let it be.
Let it be, let it be
Yeah there will be an answer, let it be.

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be

And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine until tomorrow, let it be.

I wake up to the sound of music,
    Mother Mary comes to me,
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.

Let it be, let it be.
Let it be, let it be
There will be an answer, let it be.

Let it be, let it be
Let it be, let it be
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be
