i thought you would all enjoy the fact that there is currently a lunar eclipse in process as we speak. it is visible over the eastern Americas, Europe, Africa, and western Asia. sorry i couldnt post this earlier.
so I read the post and looked outside to a cloudy as fuck day and exclaimed, 'not here!' Western Washington sucks for astronomy
I just checked it out (7:13 central time) and it's about over -- just a little dark spot on the upper-right of the moon.
It was clear blue skies until about 4:00pm here. Clouds rolled in and blocked the moon as well. Sucks too- I wanted to see this one.
eh dont worry if you couldnt see it, you didnt really miss anything special. the moon wasnt really a different color or anything.
Depends where you are/ what time you looked. If you're in America, it was only visible on the east coast and only early in the night. I looked at about 6:30 and saw a completely dark-red moon. by a little after 7 ish it started to come back, and by 8 it was completely done (here in new york at least)
Here is the most recent eclipse and some other pictures taken from previous years. The article and pics can be found here. March 3, 2007 The beginning of Saturday's total lunar eclipse is observed as the moon rises over Three Fathom Harbour in Nova Scotia, Canada. October 27, 2004 The full moon turns red and orange as it passes the Space Needle in Seattle during a total lunar eclipse on Oct. 27, 2004. May 4, 2004 A full moon rises in the night sky during a lunar eclipse above the golden domes of the Orthodox Monastery of Caves in Kiev, Ukraine, on May 4, 2004.
It was raining all day here, so it was too damn cloudy to see anything EDIT: who missed it in '04 too, cause I sure did.
I was stoned out of my mind from about 7:30 PM - 1:30 PM, but when I finally started to sober up and came upstairs looking for food, i took a look, but it was long over. It would have been a perfect night too. crisp and clear. Aw well, I've seen it before. I'll catch the next one.
