  1. About to have fifth node. Would it hurt to go ahead and start some Lst on her?

  2. I wouldnt start lsting until it's easy to bend, not only in how pliable the stem is but how long it is..

If you plan on just straight LST and only guiding the main stem around the pot while manipulating the branches into an even canopy then I would start lst as soon as the plant is well rooted and wont uproot from bending her over. To aid that I like to have 2 pieces of soft twist tie ready for the first LST, before I bend anything I attach the tie to the opposite side of the pot from where you are bending towards and bend the other side into a hook around the stem just above the cotyledons snug but not enough to pull for stability when bending the opposite way. Bury the stem to the cotyledons a couple waterings before LSTing

Since the plant is still small you will not be able to effectively tie to the side of the pot yet so I use some stiff steel wire, you can strip some garden tie if you want.. bend it into a long staple and use them to pin the main stem until it reaches the outer rim of the pot and the branches down where I need.

Heres some old pics to give you a visual idea of what I mean..

  3. If you plan to top I suggest to do it after an established LST. I will top once the top of the plant reaches the side of the pot usually and then this forces the branches to take over completely

Oh and I only do any permanent LST in the final pot.. very dangerous transplanting with a pinned plant
