Hey Grasscity!! I'm A first time indoor grower. My grow room is 4'L X 4'W X 5'foot 6"inches H. I have a 400 watt hps, good ventalition and a seperate veg room set-up with flouros. I plan on 5 plants in bucket drip systems that I already have. My problem is that I don't have alot of vertical room so I was hoping to LST the plants to max yeilds but I have a dumb question about how to access my resivoirs ? The buckets do have a drain valve but I don't want to put them up any higher off the floor then I have to to save the space for the plants to grow. If I have a plant on top of the bucket I need to change the water in, how do I move the plant if it's tied down? I had a thought of attaching a screen of sorts to the lid of the buckets so I could still access my res, good idea? I think things would get ackward once the plants got bigger. My other idea was to tie plant down as normal and just untie it when I change the water and then tie it back down after? I could still check ph and ppm every day with the drain valve. If n e one has any ideas of suggestions about my situation please let me know. One last question, I worried about police reading this, checking my E-mail and then coming to my house, I mean could a cop not just read this web site and then bust us? how does it work? Sorry for being parinoid Thanks
you have lids? have to see a pic. wouldn't want to ruin ur buckets. also, i don't think you have to worry about cops and e-mail. they've got better things to do.
thanks, I'll get some pic's up when I get home tonight. It's hard to explain without seeing it. Wait I just found a pic on the net with my system, I'll post it below
from what you've told me and the pics, it doesn't look like it matters if you drill small holes around the top of the lid. after a couple days of being tied down (usually around 3) you untie, and the branch stays in place. that's the training part. so if you do need to remove the lid for some reason, you'll be able to after a few days.
you're welcome. i'm a big fan of e-bay. i have a couple different meters. this is one of them. it works well.
LST is the shit. Its easy and there's a million and one ways to do it. Figure out your best use of space and convenience.
I just zip-tie the plants to the top of the plastic egg crate. and the whole assembly is rigidly attached to the top of the pot. I can move my plants at will unlike the typical SCROG where the plants are stuck under the screen.
Hey Gator01 Awasome lookin' plants!!!! Based on the info I have above, do you tkink that I should attach a screen to the lids of my buckets somehow? I will need to take the lid off the bucket for water changes and I'm confused on how to set it up so that I may move the plants without hurting them. I thought I might just tie them down between res changes, I can always tie them back down after I chg my res, right?
Thanks for the compliment. Well as far as the lid goes, just attach the screen to the lid. Hypothetically you should not have to take the lid off the bucket. If you cut an additional hole in the lid than you can do water changes without taking the lid off. If you set the bucket on top of something than you can syphon the old water out. But in the event you need to get into the bucket than if the plant and screen are attached to the lid than there still should be no problem. Its the roots that make taking the lid off a pain because the actual plant height is low and its securely attached to the lid. no problem.
Thanks again for the help Gator01!! I have went ahead and did as suggested and attacked some screens to the lid of my buckets. I also made a drain valve at the bottom of the bucket so all I have to do now is open the valve and presto, I can change the water!!! I have another question though, I plan on having the five hydro bucket and I also would like to do just two plants in soil, the reason being I have grown in soil before so If I really screw-up the hydro, I'll still atleast have somethin' to smoke11. My question, may be stupid, but... is it ok to put bith soil and hydro plants into the same room? I'm worried about pests.
