As the title says. I'm wondering if anyone has experience with this. I read that lower temperatures will help improve trich production near end of flower. Has anyone had success doing so? Here is my experiment.. and so far, I think it has been working great. By default, my lights on temps range from 75f - 80f My lights off temps go from 65f - 70f. Every other night time cycle, I allow some fresh cold fall air in, dropping my temps to between 55f and 60f So far I believe this has been working great. My buds are much frostier than my previous grow at this point. I'm at day 21 of flowering. See pics. I'm just looking for some input. Am I fucking myself over by allowing all this cold this early? Will I start to see issues later? Too much stress to the plants? Is the trich production as impressive as I seem to think it is? Any input would be greatly appreciated.
Looks great dude could just be the strain but then again that's a good temp to run your garden can't wait to see those things on day 42 mango420s
Thanks. I've got two strains going. 2 super iced grape fruit And 2 northern lights. all 4 of them are just as frosty if not more as the pics shown.
Here's my grow journal for this grow. http://forum.grasscity.com/indoor-grow-journals/1328565-my-second-grown-northern-high-lights-super-iced-grape-fruit.html
No input on allowing such cold air so early during flower? I mean it does seem to be working quite well so far.. But I understand that the cold air tricks the plant into thinking it's near the end of it's life cycle.. Will that cause an issue this early? Would they hermi? Is that even a lot of trichs for it's age? Or is this average?
If anything the cold night time temp will bring out any color at the end of flower. Those temps are fine really you shouldn't have any issue. I run my rooms down to 55 degrees at night, and have never had an issue just really nice color at harvest.
Awesome! Thanks for the input. What do you think about lowering the temps a bit more? Or do you think I would be asking for trouble then?
Trichomes are the plants defense against UVB, so I'm not sure that cold air will boost the production of trichomes specifically. Although I've read a few places that dropping your temps later in flowering will trick the plant into thinking it's going to die, which could lead it to pump out its last trichs. I can't testify for it, but I plan to try it on my grow. That being said I'm by no means an expert, I've just read a lot. If it's trichs your focused on, look into UVB light, I'm sure it'll have a better effect than cold air.
Thanks for the info. That's what I'm to understand as well. I guess I was more looking to find out if my trich production is high because I've been allowing much cooler temperatures this grow, or I was looking to be told that my trich production is not high at all. And what I have is quite standard.
Not really sure if this is true or not, but my room has been getting colder than usual this grow and the Trichromes on this plant are nuts. Looks like I dumped frosted sugar on the leaves lol. This is also my first time growing this particular strain, so I am not totally sure of it's genetics.
I would imagine that colder temps would intensify flowering hormones.. We know colder temps bring out fall colors. Wouldn't be crazy to think they may also help put resin production into overdrive. The plant knows the winter is approaching, so it's really going to be cranking out resin to catch polin.
As long as it isn't harming the growth of your plant and u aren't getting any phosphorus def from the cold u should be fine just keep a keen eye on them and make sure that any sign of problems u can put the temp back up. Would be careful though and probably more useful at the end of flowering as the buds have already put on weight then As long as it isn't harming the growth of your plant and u aren't getting any phosphorus def from the cold u should be fine just keep a keen eye on them and make sure that any sign of problems u can put the temp back up. Low humidity will kick up the tric production too. Especially during the last two weeks. I try to get them cold and dry for the last two weeks just before I make them sit in the dark. This usually makes the purples and blues come out of it is in their genetics.
My room has been at 20-30% RH and 55-53 Night temps and 75-68 Lights on. Ill see if I notice anything but this is only my second grow.
Thats a little cool on the day and night temps. Try and keep them above 65 if possible and over 75 (but under 80).
