I need a plant strain that doesn't put out that much odor, they will be grown in a 3 by 2 by 1.5 grow box but i don't want to buy a $150 carbon filter , but i will if i have to.

Some phenotypes of Northern Lights are among the lowest odor plants. Would be a good choice for that that small space as well. You can build your own carbon scrubber for a few bucks.
