Low cost PH/EC meter recommendations?

  1. Hi!
I've spent a lot of money so far and am running dry.. I can't put another $300 on a 2 Bluelab sticks at this time.....

I was thinking of going cheap on the meters.. This Hanna does all in one monitor for $150.. I figure it will save me some money..

Any recommendations? Should I only get the bluelabs? Anyone have good experience with another cheap meter?

    Thanks!

  2. im currently using the blue lab truntion stick its worth the money a think it cost alot mor in the uk than over where u are and easy to use and am usin the hanna ph tester the red 1 but i dont realy no of any other 1ns sorry m8 but those hanna testers u need to colaborate it so u have 2 buy the liquid to do it i have the buffer 4 and the buffer 7 liquid it depends what the ph is in tap water over there but if u buy a decent 1 they come already colaborated its confusin if u know nothin about them

  3. I've heard good things about the Hannah but never used it.

Crush, are you growing hydro? If growing in soil I don't think you need the EC, that would save a few bucks.

  4. I am going to go hydro and am currently looking around for a good ph/ec reader for a cheap price.. would a combo between the two be a cheaper item?

  5. Yeah man.. i'm planning on hydro so need a good meter. I got the hanna all in one PH/EC/Temp monitor for $140 US.

If you want to grow properly with lighting, ventilation and hydro, honestly people should know that this venture is going to cost at least $1000 just to setup the grow room and get all the equipment. And factor in CO2 implimented and you can end up spending another $1000 to do properly.

Man one thing leads to another.

  6. I use the hanna ph meter, works fine and I use a wizard control EC/PPM meter it does the job also. The two of them cost like $70. And I'd never, ever use CO2 again, I get all the growth from the CO2 mother nature and pollution have deposited for me, no need adding to the greenhouse effect.

  7. hmm alright guys, thanks for the ph and ec reccomendations, i have a couple questions though.. i know it all costs alot and slowly im building my set up.. i have a light ordered and on the way i build a closed off closet operation i got a bunch of lumber and made a table to hold a big tupperware bin so i can later put clones on it with grow blocks. i have timers so ill need to do almost nothing but check the ph en ec meters and reset the timers after the veg stage to have on off lighting and i dont know if i need to change how many times the tub is fluddded but ive read ALOT and i think i have this down so far.. im learning as i go but the only thing i dont have is the ph meter.. and i have to get a carbon filter and fan but im buying that locally i found the fan and filter for like 290 total... but yea ive spent alot so far im lookin to do it RIGHT... so my questions.. what is the whole co2 thing?? im thinking i wont need it, as co2 rises correct? its generally warm from us humans in the house and it rises so i was making the intake of air on the top of the closet and the rest is sealed off and the blower will suck air in and blow it out the bottom of the closet... that way sucking in all the warm air/co2 i guess... will that be good enough? and then im wanting to do hydro obviously.. so do any of you have a link to some info on like cloning and on how often i should be flooding the tank with the blocks? let me know any info to read will be good..

seriously this is the sweetest thing ever, all of this about growing is so interesting and exciting, im glad i got into it!!!!!!!!

  8. co2 is a heavy than air and sinks, so no intake on bottom, exhaust on top.

  9. really?? hmm wouldnt that kill us then, because smoke rises in the air during a fire and you are to get on the ground to oxygen.... as well as car exhaust rises, does it really sink?? i guess the car and fire fumes are rising for another reason then..

i can switch those then.. would be easy..

  10. thats super heated, at normal temp it is heavier.

  11. alright, i got it then, jsut wait till you guys see my grow room!!!

BOOYA! haha thanks for the help though!

  12. I bought a Hanna. I dont know if I got a bad shipment or what, but I had nothing but problems with it from the time it came out of the box.

Just plugging it in to test it and make sure it worked, the wire that connected to the power cord was loose inside so it would randomly shut off completely.

After attempting to calibrate it several times I thought I had working right.

I was wrong. The PH would jump all over the place depending if my pump was on or off. My EC meter was way off the charts, and the PPM meter registered 100ppm one day then 2000 the next. Mind you I didnt add any nutes to my distilled water. After about 2 weeks of trying to get it to work, the LCD screen crapped out on me and the whole thing got sent back.

I have a 40 station aero setup. I use distilled water, and a chemistry PH test kit from General Hydroponics. I change the resevoir every other week, and I have 40 of the lushest looking plants one could want. yeah sure it takes me 2 minutes to test the PH, and I know I dont have it accurate to the decimal, but fuck it. I know what the difference between red orange and yellow is.

  13. heres the ec,ppm,cf and ph meter i use the hanna ph meter and

[IMG]trounchen mesures ppm,cf,ec best u can get worth it but the hanna just cheep not very accurate but it does the job gives me a good crop
