Loud ballast!!!

    So yesterday started florweing by switching my MH lamp to my HPS lamp and changing the schedule to 12/12 light cycle. After i set up my HPS lmap and turned it on and everything i realized how loud the ballast is. You can hear it in the next room. Anyone have any idea on how to keep the noise from my ballast from leaving the grow room??? Need help please!!

    maybe get the ballast up off the floor (if it's on the floor) onto a foot stool or something. get some rubber feet to cushion it a bit maybe?

    i had it on a shelf in my closet. it seemed to be the worst there. i just tried putting on the floor and it seemed a little better. I threw it in a backpack and actually it muffled the sound really well i can bairly hear it now. I am just worried now that it can get really hot if it is in a backpack. Do you think that it is bad to keep it in there??? It seems like it should be fine but if you think about a really hot box with a lot of electricity in it shouldnt be covered up. i just dont have any other options :confused:

    Yes, the backpack could be dangerous. Ballasts need to vent. Just out of curiousity do you have an ssx ballast? Those are the loudest ballasts Ive ever heard. My PL is damn near silent. When I had an ssx I found out that you can wrap it in duck tape (like a belt) and will stop the noise making vibrations. Just do whatever you can to stop vibrations.

    O ya.... i have no idea wat my ballast is. I just bought the light from some guy and the ballast is this really crappy box thing like he made it himself or somthing. I'm sure he didnt but it doesnt look like a nice new ballast you would buy at the hydro store :/
