Looks like Thrips to me, want opions

This seems to be spreading on one of our mothers and I wanted to be sure it was Thrips. I have no idea how to get rid of them, but I'd prefer something free or cheap that works well. If it isn't cheap then we'll deal with it though.

 

Someone else suggested potassium deficiency. More opinions don't hurt guys. Thanks for all replys!
