"Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who has said it, not even if I have said it, unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense." I'm trying to source this. All I know about it is it comes from "Buddha." I haven't given it a whole lot of effort, but I know I was made aware of it by someone's sig text, who I know posts in this subforum, so I am hoping that if I fail in my other avenues someone can help me find the origin. I wish to know if there is a text that can be cited, as I wish to cite the quote but I do not wish to cite without source. I am also interested in examining such a text if it in fact exists. I know there are certainly a few here I have thought might be Buddhists, so I hope they will step forward and provide. Thanks guys!
You're probably not going to find any particular definitive source. In trying to cite the proper source, you are kind of ignoring the message. It doesn't even matter if the Buddha said it or not. The Buddha says everything, thus the Buddha says nothing.
somewhere in the pali canon, the buddhist scriptures don't have really "verses" or "sections".. afterall it's a collection of numerous texts. it's huge: as far as referencing goes, not much more you can do besides citing the pali canon
