Looking for good process to make Elixar

Discussion in 'Weed Edibles' started by ShamasMcNasty, Jul 16, 2023.

  1. Sitting here reading old post about making tinctures using trim and shake (I understand why), but nothing about using pure buds or so that I saw.

Anyway I've made Elixar before a several years ago using just EverClear and tiny buds from inside of the plant, they dried pretty good so it wasn't a problem. But today after weighing out 1.5oz of bud to use I notice it is so gummy no way will this crumple apart, you touch it it sticks to your fingers.

Anybody got any suggestions as well as a good tried and true recipe? I'm always looking for something new.

    Thanks.

  2. It'll be fine the way it is. After it's in alcohol it'll loosen up.

  3. Thanks, it did the job last time pretty good. But the problem is busting up the oily buds, I thought about decarboning it.

  4. Try freezing your bud and then breaking it up.

  5. Thanks, I'm gonna give that a shot.

  6. Handle it carefully when frozen. The sugar falls off easily

  7. It's working, it's all on a large plate and will be crushed on same plate before dumping in mason jar.

  8. It will need a decarb to activate the THC-a into THC.
    240 F for 40 minutes.
    Buds or Hash.
I shake the Kief from my buds, decarb it then wash the bud "scraps" with 190 proof for Tincture. It's not as good as pure buds but it is a huge step up from trim. 1 eyedropper feels like smoking a whole doobie.
I reduce most all of it to FECO for sick friends and family.

Try scissors dipped in denatured alcohol. Keep dipping often and they can usually chop up the stickiest of weed.

  9. I was thinking that but I saw if it's soaked for 4 months (120 days) that process was not needed. Last time I made some I only did a 90 day soak it wasn't bad but I was going to try something a little different this time. I've got plenty to smoke on but it's been bothering my throat for some time which is why I'm making some Elixar (not Tincture) and I have nerve damage in spine.

Life is much better smoking to ease nerve pain than it is taking methadone everyday.

  10. You can add honey to your tincture making it an Elixir of sorts. It will reduce the burn dramatically.
I have added tincture to honey and added honey to tincture.,both work well.,See my thread "spiking food". Hope this helps.,

  11. I hate to tell you this, but THC only gets just so strong, after that it degrades to CBN. If you want to sleep that's good.

The cannabinoids are oil and dissolve in alcohol almost immediately. That's why people do quick wash. Almost everything else you get nothing but the crud processors try to get out. In steed of soaking all the junk out of the herb try making good oil and make your elixir from that. Check out cannabishomesciences.com. You can make good oil following their instructions and work from there. That stuff you're trying to make would gag a maggot.

  12. I plan on adding honey to ease the taste, yea I agree without it it's a little ruff when it's raw. I put it all in a mason jar yesterday.

  13. I edited my last post but didn't apply it..,helllo.,.Anyway.,You really don't need to worry about decarbing in the oven you do not lose the goodies.,you release them.,.Just keep an eye on the temp and you'll be golden.,Otherwise fyi
I make "peanutbudder" by putting ground bud into pb and baking it for 20 minutes at 325° .,.this decarbed the bud just fine so if you can keep your oil at 240 for 40min. or at 325 for for 20min.,it should be fine.,
As stated above.,it only needs to be in the alcohol for a few minutes.,to wash the goodies out.,.If you leave it for a few months it will be ugly.,and no more potent than if you were to strain it right now.,

  14. That should work just fine. I haven't done it that way. Something I have tried with left over bud after making infused c-oil is put it in the food processor and grind it to paste and mix it with about an equal amount of peanut butter. I spread that on a cracker. Put a chocolate chip on it and it's almost like a firecrackers we used to make. I think that would be about the same as the "peanutbudder" except with a little coconut taste.

The reason I got started doing that is no matter how hard I try to get the last of the oil out bud there's always about 20% left in that gets thrown away. And, BTW, it's really potent.

  15. I mentioned the peanutbudder because it's mostly oil itself.,and the bud wasn't decarbed first and the pb can make toast out of me if I do too much.,So it seems that baked or counter topped.,the right temp for the right time would work.,

  16. Decarbing is nothing more than evaporating the CO2 from the THCA, or different temperatures for other cannabinoids. I can't see where being in something else would made much difference. It's like boiling off alcohol.

Most of the time when I'm making infused coconut oil I put 1/2 oz of bud into 1 cup of oil in a pint jar. Then set the jar in a pan of mineral oil and decarb and infuse all at the same time. Water won't get it hot enough but the oil will. Got instructions if anyone wants to try it.
