This is my plant that Im currently growing under my sink for the time being. Its currently under a single 27W (100W equivalent) Daylight CFL in regular potting soil (going to be picking up some fox farm once I transplant). Its about 2-3 weeks old and I havent started using nutrients yet.

How does my plant look like its doing?

The bottom 2 leaves just recently started turning yellow a little bit and Im thinking it might be time to add another light (or maybe transplant?). I was also thinking about just cutting them off but I hesitate because Im not sure if its normal or what.

I think it needs to be transplanted into a bigger pot because the roots are starting to pop out of the bottom of the pot and I might as well put it in its final pot and get it over with. Once I transplant I will also probably start using nutrients.

Any feedback/suggestions/comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  2. To me, it looks like the soil might not be draining well AND you need more light. Honestly, for a single plant grow I would suggest 4 23w CFLs, and transplant it into something that drains better.

  3. Your plant should be under 100w (actual not equivalent, that doesnt mean anything with CFLs. Looks a bit stretched to me as well (lights should be 2-3' at most with CFLs. The yellowing is either from a nitrogen def or from your plant being root bound. How big is that pot?

  4. Honestly for such little light, it's not looking too bad at all. :D Your girl could certainly use more light, that's a fact. But also the yellowing means it's time to give it some food, nitrogen please. Also be careful not to over-water, it looks borderline right now. Keep it up man. Just a bit more light, better soil, nutrients, and you will be rockin'. :hello:

  5. Transplanted it today...When I got the plant out of the pot, there were roots all over the sides of the soil against the pot; it really needed to get moved out a while ago. Currently sitting in a new pot with some organic soil, gave it some 20-20-20 nutes, and added a light to suffice until I either build a cfl housing for like 6 cfls or the 250w mh comes in :)

  6. get some different nutes...you want something that has a higher N (nitrogen) then P and K values for veg...the opposite is true for flowering high P and K and a lower N content. Other then that can you try to get some reflective material under your sink to get the most of your lights for the time being

  7. Looks like Ill be making a trip back to my local gardening store. For some reason I thought I remembered reading that 20-20-20 was good for vegging and something like 10-30-10 was good for flowering.
I went to Home Depot the other day and tried to get mylar and nobody knew what I was talking about but I got something similar; sheet aluminum. I didnt notice it was aluminum and might return it for like store credit or something and get some cfl bulbs instead then instead go to a hydro shop by me and get the right stuff. I also have a metal cone for the light fixture but it wont house two lights at once and I couldnt really get the other light to stay how I wanted it so just went ahead and took the cone off.

  8. Lol Ive seen a pic of a guy who cut out beer cans a certain way that fit over the lights...fuckin classic

  9. Good job getting those transplanted!

One really inexpensive fixture that you can put together from parts at home depot.

Get a bathroom bar style fixture like THIS one, a plug that you can attach to the wires, and 3 Y socket adapters and you'll be set! It's tough to see it in action, but mine is in THIS photo.

  10. I was thinking about doing something similar to that except using like a rubbermaid bin, a power strip, socket adapters, and mylar to make a hood.

Heres how the plant currently looks (~2 days after transplant). Currently using nutes and hoping the spoting will clear up within the next couple days :)
