Anything by Christopher Moore - he has a wicked sense of humor. My favorites of his are Blood Sucking Fiends and the follow up You Suck. GREAT books...couldn't put them down.
A good ass book is "Intoxication" by Ronald K. Siegal, PhD. It's about the universal 4th drive to get high.

I am really into beatnik writing now. Id recommend anything by Jack Kerouac. I am currently reading 'On the Road', which has inspired me to hitchhike across this great nation this summer. Since you mentioned HST, I would recommend The Rum Diary, or his first book which you can find, but is unpublished, 'Prince Jellyfish'. Look into the beat generation, some great stuff in there. I also noticed you added 'The Proud Highway', I am currently reading this book. As a warning it is not a work of fiction but a compilation of his letters written to various people throughout his quest to becoming famous.
If your looking for books to change the way you percieve the world and everything in it.. try the Cosmic Serpent by Jeremy Narby Its never failed to astound everyone Ive recommended it to happy reading - looks like youre in for a big year with all that reading.
This one will teach you a lot about naturo-pathics and the healing power of herbs. I recommend it to everyone. It isn't perfect, but a generally good starter for anyone who'd like to know about herbology. The Complete Medicinal Herbal- Penelope Ody
Thanks everyone for the great response. I'm going to try to get as many of them as i can. Yeah its going to be a lot of reading. But i have a lot of time on my hands. Right now i'm kinda taking a break from life, i quit talking to all my "friends", quit work. I wasn't happy were my life was heading, so i'm stepping back, taking a break, opening my mind to new things. I figured reading was the best thing to do.
