I have always used a scope to determine the point at which to harvest my crop. It varies, but my rule of thumb is to hit about 50% amber heads, then I can harvest at any time I want depending on how mature I want to let it get.I usually take a clipping from he mot resinated trim leaf I can find, the tips of the leave popping out of the top colas. That is what I look at under my scope. I have noticed one thing that seems to go across the board with almost every strain. That is the top of the leaf goe amber before the bottom. So, the top could have 50%amber trichs or more, while the underside would have 10%. If I let the plant get to 50% underneath, its usually 100% amber on top. which can can a while to achieve. I am just wondering what everyone else does if they harvest by observing the trichs through a scope.
well i think if your growing indoors everyones plants mature from top down....so the trick is to harvest the top cola portion first and then the bottom as a general rule.....thats what i do.....i do want to invest in a microscope here soon......does it make a big difference or no?
harvesting off of tric colors are to the growers likes. first they turn milky white(more of a head high) then they turn amber colored(more of a body high) i preferably like them 50/50. u might want to invest in a pocket scope about 50-70X magnification. other then that rule of thumb is when 40-80% of the hairs turn from white to redish brown from the 40- 80% range is about the same as the trics changing color
Depending on the strain, the hairs on the flowers (pistillates) will change colors at different times. I have had varieties (Sour Diesel I think) that turned dark at 5 weeks into true flower (not just 12-12). The best way is to look at the trichomes under a scope. I grow until there is a 50-50 split of amber/white and then I flush the plants for 7-10 days. Good Luck!
he does have a opoint but without that scope then just go by gut instinct. i have an electronic microscope that magnifies 100-400X so its pretty simple for me
