Long Term Storage of Seeds

Discussion in 'Marijuana Seeds Banks' started by Deleted member 1153948, Feb 24, 2023.

  1. After watching a few documentaries on bringing back extinct species. They used two examples of plants that have been extinct for thousands of years, but after finding seeds of those plants, they planted some and a few germinated. Could it be possible to store some landrace seeds in some kind of air-tight seal to preserve them? What are your thoughts? Could it be done?

  2. Keep them air tight sealed in a freezer indefinitely

  3. Really?! I'll have to keep that in mind. Some seeds that have been preserved in permafrost germinated.

  4. Their just seeds, where I keep mine. Most depending on when they'll use them, sooner use fridge longer wait use freezer. Look at where the world's seeds are stored. Norwegian island of Spitsbergen in the remote Arctic Svalbard archipelago, kept in a freezer sticking out of ice.

  6. Norway is a little out of my reach. But my closet has more room now that I sold my sewing machine.

  7. I'm just afraid that they will be gone in the next 10 years. Landrace seeds are getting harder and harder to find.

  9. I think I've seen Strainhunters before. I watched a program on tv about these two men that were looking for original landrace seeds and they were going all over the world looking for specific strains.
