Long board help!

Discussion in 'General' started by Glass Soul, Mar 28, 2012.

  1. Hey there, I really wanna get into long boarding, I used to skate when I was a kid, and many of my peers said that long boarding is really fun, so I decided I would customize my own long board with used parts, just in case I don't like it I wouldn't have lost much money.

I overheard my friend say that anyone over 170lbs shouldn't long board because the board might not be able to be ridden as well as someone who weighed less. I am 5'7" and 180 pounds, I have a construction worker body type if that makes sense, I wouldn't consider myself fat for my weight as I'm pretty healthy, but back when I was younger and used to skate I weighed a lot less.

It kinda got me thinking about board durability with heavy riders. I currently own a 45 inch San Clemente Pintail deck, and I was wondering if my weight would be an issue for this board? Or for long boarding in general?

    Thanks guys.

  2. yo trust me long boarding isn't worth it

  3. Care to give an explanation?

  4. its just pointless, your board will break (thats a fact), you look retarded ridin one no one has ever looked badass ridin a long board, you cant do any tricks on them.

yo its just a fad that you should skip

    Haha fuck off guy.

You've never bombed a 2min hill with 10 of your buddies.

    It's SO much fun.

And you look prett badass when you just hunker in and speed the fuck down..

And I feel pretty badass bombing hills and carvin em up like a boss

  6. I guess a 100$ piece of wood is good for goin downhills thats cool for like a few days right? i suggest a sled

  7. Maybe he enjoys it and makes it a regular thing and doesn't suck at it and bitch about it because he got a few boo-boo's and cried like a little bitch infront of his friends.

  8. tbh, ive long boarded once. I've witnessed it alot tho and its ridiculous. Its like skateboarders are trying to rebel from bein skateboarders and invented this retarded lookin thing

Haha not even bro. It's a lazy sport.

Smoke a blunt. Park a friends car at the bottom of a GIANT hill and drive your car to the top.

Then bomb it like a boss.

And if a dude has a girlfriend you have a driver!

EDIT: Minus spend my money on something I'm gunna enjoy.

And idk bout you guys. But I have a full time WELL paying job.

$100 for a board that's gunna last a long ass time is nothing when you buy a gram of wax everyday.

You've done it once and have already formed a solid opinion on it? Ignorance at its finest, ladies and gents.

No OP you aren't gonna break your board. I have a 200 lb friend who longboards all the time. He loves it as a matter of fact. I highly recommend you do it

  11. Actually, Skaters hate kids who long board in my city, and they hate kids who ride BMX bikes too. I'm not trying to be bad ass, it's a surfboard on wheels, there isn't anything bad ass about it. I wanna try it because at one point in time I did skateboard on a regular basis and I didn't like how almost every road was rough to ride on except for those black tar roads, and I heard that long boards are a smooth ride anywhere you go, and fast. I have experience in skating, I'm not doing this because it's a fad, I wanna try it cause I can customize a board for less than $100 and if it is true then I'd most likely use it very often.

My only concern here is if my weight could damage the board or if it would make my riding experience less enjoyable.

  12. So much fun!

Make sure trucks can handle weight.

  13. Just know OP. if you eat shit. It hurts.

What I do is.. If I can feel an eminent crash.. I'll make my way to the side of the street and just crash on a lawn..

Doesn't always go that smoothly though. Some of the gnarliest eating of shit I've seen was when long boarding.

    But it's ridiculously fun.

  14. Looool, <3 accept it long boarding is dumb as fuck. thats all to say, i dont really wanna argue with you defending your retarded decision of long boarding and making up excuses to defend it.

  15. Thanks. I was looking some stuff up on google and someone suggested that the longer the board was, the more durable it would be, but you'd have to sacrifice carving a lot etc, but who knows, I'll give it a try then, if a 200 pound person can do it then I guess I can too, I just hope it's as fun as everyone says it is, especially baked :p

  16. Yeah I've seen some videos of pretty bad wipe outs Dx I assume it isn't hard to slide to brake is it?

  17. Not every 200 lb person was made for long boarding.

Better have good balance and strong leg muscles.

Wish I was at Newport or Venice beach righ now.

Braking is easy If you do any sort of skating.

For real. This summer I'll probably just live riding up and down Venice beach on my board blazing lol

    Shits the best.

  20. Does matte your weight, there are boards made for everyone talking about what type of wood is used and what not they all have there flexibility's. You can do so much on a longboard, I sold mine :( needed money but I'll get another one soon.
