So I just noticed that my power strip has a little light on it, the on and off switch lights up, and its in my grow room when the plants are on 12/12. Is this an issue? Thanks,
Shouldn't be an issue. Remember that these plants take full moonlight when grown outside without issue.
As far as I'm aware (and I may be wrong) they do not use any light outside of the visible spectrum for photosynthesis and the moon reflects the entire spectrum of the sun (at a lower power of course). What would make a little LED on a power strip have any effect that the moon wouldn't have? That little LED is most likely using a whole 50 or so mW (.05 watts) and maybe sending out 3-5 lumens or so which seems to me like it shouldn't really matter.
Sometimes a debate isn't even worth the effort. It takes more work to try to argue why the little light maybe doesn't affect the plant than it does to just cover it up. Plus, what's the downside of being wrong with each choice? If you cover the light and never needed to, you wasted about 10 seconds of your life. But if you didn't cover it and did need to, you risk turning your whole crop hermie. I don't like playing Russian Roulette no matter what the odds are, because the consequences of being wrong are too severe.
Although it would be rare, you could come across a manufacture that uses a cheap LED that emits the exact same spectrum as say a LED UFO growlight. secondly, lets look at moonlight. Last time I checked the moon runs monthly cycles and isnt that bright 75% of the time. Your LED would be on every night, all night. I tape all my LED lights on my power strips with duct tape. It takes about 3 layers to completely black out the light. I'd say there are a few lumens floating around if you arent taping your LEDs.
