Links between terrorism and McCarthyism?

  1. Many people have claimed that the new terrorism craze has become a "New McCarthyism." Several incidences of blacklisting and arrest have been reported. Most notably, the temporary arrest and harrassment of protestors attempting to board an airplane.

Yes, my fellow stoners; if you are a marijuana activist (or even a peace activist, for that matter,) you could be detained, confined to a cell, and held indefinitely because of your personal views and opinions. A database of news articles regarding this phenomenon can be found at http://www.progressive.org/webex/mcwatch.html

For those of you not familiar with McCarthyism, an overview can be found at http://www.spartacus.schoolnet.co.uk/USAmccarthyism.htm

...So what does everyone think about this? Fiery debate is welcome, hope to hear from you soon! :)

(edit) Thinking of showing your displeasure? Think again. Please read the following link describing what happened to a man when airport screeners forced his wife to disrobe in public, and the trumped-up charges that insued! http://www.overgrow.com/edge/showthread.php?s=&threadid=217548

  2. As much as I love to debate.. there isn't one here... the fact of the matter is that the government has used the event of 9/11 to push their restrictions and laws that would directly affect the likely hood of "success" on the WOD.

I do agree that a certain amount of new policies should be instituted temporarily to quell terrorist efforts. However, I can't help but to notice that most of what have been done directly correlates with their effort to wage war on drugs.

“New” McCathyism, pfft! It has always been around… only that the drums are sounding just a tad bit louder and people are noticing it a lot more these days.

P.S. You know... here is where the hippies should come out and tell us the way things were in their era. I mean the yonger generation should really hear what went on back in the days... And when I say back in the days, I mean, BACK in the DAYS not Daze.

  3. So what's been going on back then everyone? As NuBBiN says, the board has a bunch of the old-style hippies around, so what was left out of the history books that I don't know about? :)

    P.S. Happy holidays everyone!
