    Hey guys. I have been reading through the posts and have found the information very helpful. I am a first time grower and have my hydro all set up and dialed in (I hope). I have 12 plants in a closet about 9 days old and they are looking great. I have a 400MH light in there right now. The light gets hot as hell but I have ventilation set up so that it's not a problem. I have been running the lights 24/7. I am a little concerned because all of the fans and ventilation seems too loud. I am wondering if I can run the MH light for 18 hours and then switch to cfl or flouros for the remaining 6 hours so that I can turn down the fans and keep the noise pollution down during the night. Are there any potential problems with this in regards to the plants adjusting to the different light intensities?

    You can just switch to 18/6 instead of 24/7 and from what ive read, they grow at the same rate.

    You can use that to regulate the heat, i turn my fans off at night with the lights. But i guess thats up to you.

    yup, switch to 18/6 or even 16/8 and you'll do fine. some will argue that they grow fastest with 24/0 and some will argue for 18/6 being faster. i, myself like 18/6 because during the dark "night" plants use sugars and nutes (and all sorts of other things happen that i couldn't explain even if i knew what they were) to produce hormones. in nature it's not light around the clock (exept in alaska as chimera will tell you). in a nutshell either will work but i wouldn't use hid for 2/3's of the day then floros for the other 1/3. that could stress it, stunt it's growth and even possible result in a hermie.
