So I have just finished reading an interesting article about Lumen’s and LUX.

    LUX is Lumens/meters squared.

Example. A 400 watt HPS that puts out 50,000 Lumens will have a LUX of 50,000 at 1 meter squared and 25,000 LUX at 2 meters squared.

My understanding from this article is that you want to aim for more than 25,000 LUX for best possible flowering (from 25,000 to 50,00 LUX)

My question is what if you have a space that is less than 1 meter square? For simplification purposes what if the space is only 1/2 of a square meter? (70.71cm x 70.71cm = 5,000 cubic cm)

How would I calculate the LUX for this space for a 400 watt HPS that spits out 50,000 Lumens?

Is it 75,00 LUX, 100,000 LUX, is it something else or does it just stay at 50,000 LUX?

  2. alright 1m x 1m = 100cm x 100cm. that means that the 50,000 LUX at 1m squared = 50,000 LUX at 10,000cm squared. Now 2 meters squared is not 2x2 obviously but 1x2. so 5,000cm squared is .5 meters squared. LUX = 50,000/.5 = 100,000 LUX. At least thats the math part of it, i don't really know the LUX system in general.
