Lights and ballast question.

  1. This may sound stupid but can you put a lower wattage bulb, for example a 150 watt, into say a 400 watt ballast? I'm asking cause I don't know if the ballast will feed the bulb to much juice and blow it up. Thanks in advanced for your replys.

  2. no you can`t

  3. Cool thanks for the heads up.

  4. With digital ballasts you can do it...say if you have a 250 watt digital ballast I think you can run any wattage lower than that.

  5. yeah, the newer digital ballasts that have an "auto sensing" feature can run anything lower than their rating. You will start to see more of them soon that are designed to run a 400, 600, or 900 bulb. It depends onthe model and manufacturer.

As rule, if you have a standard ballast, only use a bulb that is rated the same as the ballast.
