Lighting suggestions for a 2x2

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by JSgrewit42, Oct 9, 2018.

  1. So what do y’all think I should get ? I’m leaning towards Quantum Boards, Cobs, maybe something from California lightworks.

Just curious on what everyone has to say I would love some input. There is no budget

  2. Yes. Two qb288's would be way to hot for a 2x2. It can cover a 2x4 no problem.

  3. I can guarantee if you went with option two or three I gave you that it would be more then enough light and you would most likely run it dimmed.

  4. The spectrums are so similar. I flower with 4-4000k qb120’s and 8-3000k qb120’s

  5. Thanks i appreciate the input. I think the single qb288 is what I’m going for

I think the 260w XW QB V2 kit would be perfect for a 2x2. This video might help in your decision.

Also, the HLG website says "out of stock" but I would shoot them an email and double check. They'll help you throughout your purchase from there.

  8. Think I’m gonna grab a qb96 to pair with my hlg65 in a 2x2x4. @tbone you think that’s over kill?

  9. You could use it dimmed like all the way down but that's too many watts per square foot for a 2x2. We are talking 4 square feet of floor space. I bloom a 4x4 which is 16 square feet. 4 times the size with 2 qb260's. No way I could run 4 in my space. Maybe dimmed all the way like I said but it's really overkill.

  10. The HLG65 is actually a little too small to bloom a 2x2. The rated veg coverage is 2x2. I veg with those. The bloom coverage is 2 square feet or 1x2 so 2 HLG 65's in a 2x2.

You could certainly add a qb96 elite to a 65 for bloom. I would run it around 100 watts. You won't need much more then that but I already searched at my favorite driver site and the lowest match in stock is the 185h.

With the 185h and a qb96elite with heatsink you might as well remove your HLG65 and make a separate veg area with it. Then use the 96 for bloom. It's fully capable of covering the 2x2 without the 65. Or just sell the HLG65. Anyone that sees one come on will want to buy it. It's an easy sell for $75 used.

  11. A single qb288 kit is fully capable of an 8oz harvest BTW if you're wondering.

  12. I’ve gotten 6 with this vipar 600 so I’m excited to see what these quantum boards can do

  13. Not sure why you chose to measure by wattage and not the ppfd but most topics on lighting seem subjectable anyways. Good luck OP.

Also, he could run it at around 50-60% and be fine. He'd actually extend the lifetime of his diodes by doing so. Nobody wants to run a fixture at 100% for its entire lifetime. Just my .02 tho.

  14. We don’t run these at 100 %. The rated wattage is only a fraction of what they can handle. For instance, the 288 board is a 130 watt board. It’s been ran up to 600 watts before the driver failed, board still intact. Ppfd is better to compare, but knowing the ppfd is 2.2 or better, we know wattage requirements are less than HID or Blurple lighting (around 35 watts per sf). Wattage is easier to explain and figure out if compatible than trying to explain PPFD, if you can even find that info for all lighting
