Lighting Situation!!!!!!

  1. Quick question....:

Can I use a bunch of four foot shop lights (i dont know if they make CFL's that long or if the 4ft ones are only FL's??) in my setup. So im wondering if the long ones are CFL's and how many 4 footers i should use on like 3 plants.

I know that MH and HPS are much more ideal than these but this is what is hapening....so please just answer the question. Quick answers are appreciated because the grow needs to start ASAP. thanks!

  2. CFL's are just flourescent bulbs, and shop lights are flouro tubes. They both put out the same kind of light. 4 footers will work good if you LST them so there's a nice even canopy on top that you can get the lights close to.
Use 6500K bulbs (AKA daylight bulbs) for veg, and 2600 for flower (aka soft white bulbs). The numbers don't have to be exact, sometimes they have 6400k and 3000k.

  3. You can totally use shop lights. If you can, use the t8 kind. The other key to using them is to keep the light as close as possible with a nice breeze blowing through. Yet, keeping the lights close will maximize your yields. Keep your plants compact as well or you will have to add side lighting....

  4. yes. I use 4 foot flouros for veg. they work great. keep a fan on those tubes and you can practically rest the lights on your plants without burning them.

  5. Thanks a lot people!!!! Few more questions.....:

    1. Is two 24 inch FL's with 885 lumens and 5500 K sufficient?
    2. I can switch to 1050 lumens with 4100k? would that be better??

If i go any higher than that i have to buy a new ballast which is 100$, and i dont wanna do that. Any help?????:smoking: :smoking: :smoking:

  8. I'm guessing you're in veg? If so, definitely don't get the 4100k, and you should be able to find something better than 5500k. Is there a home depot or lowes near you? They have 6400k bulbs in a lot of sizes.
