I noticed that 400 wat lighting is sort of expensive, are there any other alternatives besides 400 wat HPS lights? Also how much does it cost to run a 400 wat light per month and about how many plants can i get under one light (they are clones ). I've done three outside grows but this would be my first inside grow. Any help would be very much appreciated and sorry if this has been asked i45085340984 times.
You can run a flouro set up! You can get 2 four ft flourous for like $10 and CFLs you can find for as cheep as $1.50. I run 2 4ft flouros and 4 Cfls for one plant but im sure that you could have 3 or 4 plants in that enviroment! Maybe add a little more during flowering! Good luck!
Im gonna do 10 clones so whats the right amount of CFL's? Also how much a month would it cost to run say 15-20 of those.
That i am not sure of! mine is really cheap but i am only running what i said above $5 a month difference from before i started! Yours Maybe $10 idk $15 but im not possitve that is just going off of what i have!?
Ill probably buy a fixture with a lot of CFL lights then. Once I sell my first crop im going to buy HPS lights. My friend wants $3750 a pound, sound reasonable ? ( I live 20 mintues from downtown san francisco so its chaper here)
I just got this lil tid bit from Odin... 1 400 watt HPS light is equal to 40 4ft 40watt Flourescent bulbs... you can grow 5 plants nicely under a 400 watt HPS if your are looking at CFL's you are gonna need a whole shit load of clamp's reflectors, splitters, and all sorts of crap... not cost or space efficient at all. wireless go ahead and get yourself 80 flourescent tubes for your 10 clones... my 4, 4 foot flo's cost me $35 for the lights and the fixture... so go ahead and get 20 times that much??? and have it cost $700 and take up soo effin much room... or go ahead and get dual 600 watt HPS's for $600... wireless i suggest doing a tad bit of research and reading on this site before you get yourself in wayyy over your head. You cant just throw lights up and have plants grow especially that many. To grow 10 plants you are prolly looking at spending at least $2000 for supplies only, thats not 100% that all 10 will grow with no problem... $3750 a pound?? Wowzers, i cant even imagine paying that much a LB, thank god for canada ay?
I think that's a little bit of a generalization. Lumens vary depending on the type of bulbs you use. I'm using 55 watt T5 2G11 base bulbs which put out 4800 lumens. Granted a 400 watt HPS is going to put out around 50,000 lumens but for a small grow like mine where heat is a concern these bulbs should work fine. I also like being able to keep the lights just a few inches above the plants.
The amount of CFL's it would take to flower 10 healthy plants would cost just as much, if not more in power to run. Even just 1 42w soft white per plant would be 420w, and that's not enough light. While I love preaching the good word about fluoro, your grow is too big. I think you're better off with a HPS for flower, and some daylight spectrum tubes for veg. That'd be the most power effecient way.
Ill throw my numbers in here, ive got 3 plants under a 250 HPS, and damn near 350 watts of flo's The more light the better right!!!
