Lighting...Need Help ASAP

Discussion in 'Grow Room Design/Setup' started by RackCityRasta, Jan 21, 2014.

  1. Ok so seeds arrived this morning just growing 1 biodiesel mass auto fem (Germing right now) got a bigger pot and box :D so more of a harvest hopefully. Well actually it's more like an extension. I'll upload some pics so you can all see what I mean.  :smoking: Anyway growing under 2 45 watt cfls 1 2700k 1 6500k producing 6000 lumens in total. Got a lighting problem though if anyone knows any sparkies. I live in the uk and have an american power strip with two lightbulb sockets which plug directly to the lightstrip I run this through a step down transformer to get the correct voltage and lights all good for about 5 - 10 minutes before turning into some crazy strobe lights  :hippie: they are literally just flickering but as fast as strobe lights and also the light really drops. If anyone could help Please do really eager to get growing  :metal:  :bongin:

  2. CFLs act funny when they aren't getting just the right amount of power. I have three CFLs in a lamp with a dimmer switch that is designed for use with incandescent bulbs. When the switch is full on everything is fine, but when I start to dim the switch (I think it is just a voltage divider) the bulbs start to strobe. It could be possible that as your circuit warms up your voltages change a bit and causes the bulbs to strobe. Might be easiest just to buy a converter.

  3. Thanks Blok Rokn

I have tried with just one of the 45w bulbs which seems to power on and work perfectly with no flickering so may just get a bunch of 23w cfl's to putin the box do you think that one 6400k 45w will be enough for one seedling for about two weeks

  4. Ok so turns out I made a schoolboy error. Checked the transformer and can only take 50 watts max :/ so thinking about starting seedling off under just 1 45 watt 6500k as i'm skint until I get paid a week Monday. Will than invest in a 125w 2700k cfl and max out with as many 23w cfls as possible. Have got the E40 lead already just need the bulb. I'm only growing 1 auto so would the 45watt keep it ticking over for a couple of weeks until I can get my hands on new lighting. She' not popped yet but is germinating and should be ready this evening

  5. You got any pics of this? How big is said setup? You going for compact and stealth or is that not really an issue? If it's not and you can afford it I would HIGHly recommend an interchangeable HPS/MH ballast. If you can't don't worry - I've had many successful runs in plastic totes w/ cfls. But to answer your question, your seedling should be just fine for a couple weeks under 45W. After that tho it's gonna get hungry for more.

  6. Hey guys will upload some pics later planted seed yesterday at about 11am currently it is under 1 45w 6500k cfl 3,000 lumens and I am getting worried as there hasn't been much development. the stalk growing out has gone purple. Should I be worried. No leaves yet. Is this normal or could this just be the genetics of the straing. I'm growing 1 biodiesel mass auto by advanced seeds in FFOF temps around 65 - 74 and humidity is usually between 50 and 60. ANy help appreciated

    Thanks :)

  7. some advice.. pop more then 1 seed man. pop as many as u can . if ur 1 plant hermies.. or flowers to early.. u could end up wasting months of time for an 8th of weed. I had a autoflower yield 7 grams and was pissed..  if u want the best yield for your area..  pop as many seeds as u can fit.. start them in beer cups.. then half gallon pots.. then gallons.. once there showing sex.. take a few clones. and flip to flower.. ull be happy u took clones.. kuz then u can grow a mother.. and keep ur room full of amazing buds and not have to rely on seeds..

if u need anything let me know man. im here to help.. been growing for 10 years. and grow amazing. buds..

  8. Thanks Bro. Have been tempted to pop the other auto seed I have but not sure about the changing pots idea as have read this can put a lot of stress on autos :/ same with cloning i think i'm gonna wait until my financial situation has got better and than move on to photoperiod with a perpetual grow going but at the moment just gonna let the one auto i got do it's thing and see how it goes. Probs do a little bit of LST to make the most of the space I have :ey:  :smoke:

actually forgot its auto.. ya u want to just Start them in atleast a Gallon.. up to a 3 gallon..   and with a auto.. u wont usually have much time to LST.. usually they just grow till sexing.. and start flowering.. this is why im saying.. pop some bag seeds u found in weed.. and do ur first grow.. with as many seeds as u can fit. and pull the males.. u will be extremely pissed wen u harvest 1 plant at the end of all that work.. wen u can do a few more with the same space.

im just trying to help. I made a nice mistake. .by growing a single plant my first few grows. and 2 of the 3 grows.. I ended up with hermis.. that made tons of seeded crap.. out of the oz I yielded..   and then  I said fuck it. and popped as many seeds as I could fit into my 3x3x5 box ..  and pulled the males.. and ended up yielding 128 grams off 16 plants.. and I used 8 cfls that were small .. cheap.. the highest wattage I could find at walmart or dollar stores..   and was impressed so I bought a 400w ballast and setup.. and my second grow I popped 40 seeds.. ended up with 22 females.. I put a tarp on the floors.. and about 7 -8 inches up each side of the walls. and dumped my soil mix on the floor.. and I used it as a bed.. put the 22 females in there spread out nicely. and yielded 440 grams  .

I was doing a tiny bit more work.. and spent maybe an extra 50 bucks. to get 114 more grams man its soooo worth it .

good luck to you tho.. autos have there place.. and its not for indoor growing.. just so u know.. autos are made to do outdoors were they receive tons of light.. and can grow pretty decent sized .. indoors they tend to do very small yields.. unless ur doing a SOG and using 1000w lights..

like we use autos around here so we can pull a early harvest.. and a late harvest outdoors.. to make the most out of the Season . its very efficient.        but even outdoors we have not seen any autos that will do more then 2 ozs per plant in full sunlight..,

im working on finding the right autos.. but all the breeders making them right now aren't doing a good job.. I tested 4 breeders autos . and got shit yields indoors and out.. an i only found 1 dude making good autos.. and hes not even a known breeder.. he made them for himself to pull 2 harvests an outdoor season.. and i bought 100 seeds. and made my own autos.. for my outdoors.. im working in a very potent SFV OG KUSH x ECSD into my auto line to produce some potent autos.. most of the autos ive grown. are just not as potent as a normal plant.

  10. quick answer to your problem: buy new light-HID if you can deal with the heat and everything. LED if you can't.

Long answer to your question: buy more cfls with UK plugs.

  11. yea gonna pop 2 y spitters in there with 4 23w bubs 2700k and 1 more 45w  at 2700k so total of 182 watts and around 12,000 lumens. Will post some pics when this is done should be a week Monday gonna get hold of a smal fan to go inside aswe o get the temps down if they get too high  :metal:

  12. whats your grow area

  13. 24" by 13" by 14" HWD should be 6,000 lumens per square foot

  14. if you can, try moving it up to around 10k lumens per sq ft. that's about optimal in terms of lighting and still being able to regulate temperatures. obviously that's getting really picky you'd be fine with what you have for a first time around.

  16. Hey Guys bit concerned and need some help she's 10 days old since she popped her head through the soil however the leaves are starting to droop a little and there is a little bit of discolouration at end of leaves. the 2 new big leaves are the ones that are drooping and the lower ones are the ones that are starting to discolour. PH is around 6.5 - 7.0 I've popped some pics up so you can see what i'm talking about it's a creamy off whiteish colour. would appreciate any help as don't wanna lose her :(
