Hey guys, So me and a couple of buddies started our first grow about a month ago, we had a couple of rough paches in the beginning but i am happy to say that there are 12 healthy plants in one of our closets. Unfortunately our lighting is completely inadequate to support this much growth right now it's just 4 26W cfl's. One of the lights blew yesterday and it got be thinking about spending the money and getting a hps ballast and light kit, will it be worth it or should we just go buy a bunch more cfl's? Also what ballast and light should I get if i decide to go this way? Thanks a lot, Dan
I am a CFL grower, but for that many plants they are impractical. You need to get a 400-600w HPS set-up at a minimum. The only other choice is to reduce the number of plants and add a bunch of CFLs. The general rule of thumb is 100w for the first plant and 50w for each additional plant.
if you want cfl's look into the T5's (I don't recommend them for flowering though) or a 150 hps if you can't vent but it will get warm in there (maybe too warm depending where you live) but a SCROG can be done to better your yield on a lamp that doesn't penetrate with lumens too far
