Anyone ever made a drastic lighting change? I would think that it would only result in a positive impact on the plant, but on the flip side if the change is really drastic, like 100w MH to 1000w HPS, do you think that will stress the plant? Just curious if anyone had ever done that and how the plants reacted.
I assume that the additional light would be beneficial in increments, but with a huge increase like that, all at once I was nervous about stressing the plant.
I went from a 250 watt mh to a 400 watt hps with no problems. Then I went from the 400 watter to a 1000 watter with no problem (other than adjusting for the heat). I've taken clones from cfl to the 1000 watter. It doesn't seem to have any detrimental effect.
I gradually introduce plants to the stronger light. When my clones go from CFL's to the HPS, I start out with the light far away from them and try to put them underneath a larger plant to give them some cover if possible. My clones have definitely shown stress when I just throw them in there. I've found that two or three days of babying them and introducing the stronger light in increments pays off because they don't get stressed. HTH
I take clones from under a t8 fluoro and put them right under a 600 watt mh, about 3 inches away.... I have a cool tube, so I'm sure it's more heat dependent. I've had a few clones left in the sun/windowsill that completely dehydrated in a few hours.
Keep your heat down and you should have no problems. I go from t5's to 1000w hps as close as I can get them. Then they just explode. Check my thread
