Does it matter when I put my plants under light? I work so sometimes the time they go under varies. They still get the same amount of time in the light. Some days may be 12pm others it may be 1pm, but they still get 18hrs. Could this be a problem or hazardous???
i have run into this problem as well and saw no adverse affects, other than me having to stay up later of course lol. i would imagine it could cause the plant stress if the time difference is too much but idk for sure. happy growing
I wasn't sure that's why I asked. It's been like this since its birth (I refer to my plants as my children) and it'll be 2wks old Monday. But looking at other 2wk olders, I feel like mines are going slower. Lol may be just my impatience and eagerness to show people closer around me that I can grow a fucking plant so I ain't got to buy my weed no more. Lol.. But if you feel like it wouldn't be a big deal, well... Lol happy growing.
some plants just grow faster than others man. i definitely understand where you are comin from though waiting sucks lol. i have three babies that will be three weeks old on monday and they are only about three or four inches tall because i used cfl's. now they're under my hps and i check on them almost hourly when im home lol if i could stand all that light i would probably chill in my closet and just watch them grow haha
Lmfao!! I swear that's how I feel!!! If I don't see improvements or growth I'm instantly tryna see what's going on. I wish I could just sit and watch them grow but.. Lol oh well... Thanks though for your response.
Howdy, as a commercial grower let me stress the importance of keeping them on a good schedule. Like a child if the sleep schedule gets messed up they are cranky and unruly. Your plants also want good schedules. It is very important in the flowering stages because your plant can hermie and grow faux seeds. In veg they will not grow as healthy as others will with consistent light schedules. Just my two cents folks.
If you purchase a timer at Home Depot or Walmart this will take care of the issue for you. Set it at 18 on and 6 off and roll on brudda.
....ok so I am a COMPLETE newbie...first time grower.....tired of buying and want some of my own.....I've always had a green thumb so I figured I'd take a shot at growing some myself....... On to my question.... You mentioned that your plants were small because you used CFLs..?.. I've been doing a lot of reading(obviously not enough) for the past two weeks or so...between this site and a few others... and I thought that that's what we are supposed to use?.......... I have my baby under 4, 100 watt 6500K CFLs..... From what I've read...lumins don't really matter as the plants need watts right? But they are 1600 lumins each. I'm just growing one right now as a test run......got the seed from some decent reggie...hoping its a female! but anyhow I was hoping to do the full grow using CFLs.....can I not do that? Also, how much light should it get? I'm confused on that....some ppl say 24/0 some say 18/6? Pardon my ignorance......just trying to absorb as much info as possible. I'm going to attempt to attach a picture or 2...yea my set up is pretty ghetto...but I ddnt wanna go all out on my first time.....she is a week and a day old.....ALSO, to the starter of this post....not trying to rob it homie my bad....my question just arose from reading responses here....Thanks to anyone who can offer input....Im super anxious....I've literally been chkin on it every few hours.....but like zmasterflash said my eyeballs can't take it lbvs.... To answer your questions, yes CFLs are what a lot of beginners start with, even I did to. And as far as lighting goes, I use 24/0 lighting for my seedlings/clones till their about 1 1/2-2 weeks then I go to 18/6 till it's time for going into flowering(12/12)!! .... wrongs; 1.) Your growing regs! That's okay to learn on I guess. 2.) With only one seedling(especially with regs) you have 50/50% chance with it being a female!! Good luck man n if you need anymore help you can ask me. Keep growing fellow grower!! THTstonedGUY
Don't worry about the slow growth from what I read and my own xp on my grow (losing my virginity at the mo) cfls do tend to produce slow growth lumens do play a role but best advice would be put your lights about 2inches away from you plants or as close to that as you can and when using cfls go by actual watts not equivalent watts I.e if your bulb is rated input is 23w with an equiv of 100w your bulb is not 100w its 23w so you would need 4 to make 92w and per plant you need around 100-125w but either way your on a great start both of you because you've made the leap to becoming a true gardener if we all had a smoke, we wouldn't need war

What does keeping the lights on 24/0 do that 12/12 doesn't? I have not yet found much info on that yet,... that broke it down at least.

[/quote] Do not quote me on this but by my understanding the veg period is the plants main growth period and plants grow using light to create its food from nutes in the soil which it does in summer months so setting you light to 18/6 - 24/0 fools the plant into thinking summer is here. When lights are switchvto 12/12 the plant thinks is starting to get to the end of summer into fall and must produce seeds in order to continue on the life cycle there for flowering to create pollen to be fertilised by the male I.e making buds where seeds grow. I do believe this to be correct Think of it like a daisy (although different flower cycle same theory) the flower of a daisy is to create more daisies fooling the daisy into thinking its needs to make its seeds early would make it flower quicker. if we all had a smoke, we wouldn't need war
