I was at a friends house and he showed me his setup and he's using a 6ft light rail. He said he uses it so he can basically use one 1 light to cover the space of 2 and it saves on the electric bill. What do you guys think of them do any of you use them?

  2. I don't personally use one in my grow but my buddy has a 6 foot rail. They work fine, great for moving your light from point A to point B.

  3. if u do it right u can really improve on ur garden, but they cost the same as 1 1000w bulb, hood, and ballast, so its not much as a money savor, but if enery cost get u they will save u.

but they are tricky, ive seen then yield as high as 2lbs with one light on a light mover, and ive seen less then 1.5lb with one 1000W on a light mover

  4. I was looking at it from a saving point. You run 1 1000w in a 4x8 space and in my case you save $85 in electricity

Buying a new lamp, hood and ballast actually costs about 3 times as much as the 6" rail

  5. Bump for more opinions

  6. they have been around long enough that i have seen many vids, stats, and journals to completely believe that light movers improve crop.

personally, they are just too damn expensive to be breaking down all the time. methinks that is the reason for all the 'extra' or 'spare' parts that are sold for them. i dunno.

if you got the dough, i say go for it... and post pics! :)

  7. Not so sure about that... My buddy has had his for years with no problems.

  8. If I had the money I would deffinitely get one but I gonna only be growing indoors in the winter. The one I was looking at costs about $200 localy and only use 3 watts of electricity. The guy I was talking to said the most common part that goes out is because it wasnt maintained on a regular basis, something about lubricrating a couple of the moving parts.

    REALLY!!??:)

what kind and size? how much weight can it carry? i really do want one.:smoke: but weight would be another issue. iv got a big hood w/2 bulbs in it. prob around 50lbs:confused:

  10. my brother had a light rail for 5 years and its still in use, but he did get it about 10 years ago and had to replace the motor, someone dropped it

  11. His is a six foot rail and has been in use for probably 6 years. He only runs a single 400watt

  12. Look at the Light Rail 3.5 or 5.0 for heavier fixtures. I have been running many of them for over a year without any failures. They make a big difference.

  13. I've used a lightrail for a bit now, I have a journal here with quite a few grows under a lightrail 3.5. I should also state I just switched to two lights, and there is a difference.

They have their pro's and con's. A thousand watt light on a mover will not be equal to two lights. It will definitely help stretch your light coverage for a bit more plants, also getting rid of shaded spots. A pause on each end is essential, and even then the plants towards the sides of the garden tend to stretch more than the others.

You will want the 5.0 model for anything over 40lbs I believe. The 5.0 will also allow you to run two lights on the mover.

Hope this helps anyone's decision to purchase one.

  14. Great points, well said, QFT.
