Light interruption?

I forgot to turn off the lights for the girls tonight until about 2 hours later than they've been on. I grabbed a timer as soon as I did this but I'm wondering how I can lessen the shock the extra light might have given them. Should I give them the full 12 hours of dark tonight then cut off an hour of light or what?
