Hey guys... so for some weird reason today... adn only today. my 600w MH light is turning off and on. its down it about 2 times now.... Its currently off, when it should be on. I dont want my baby to start flowering. What the heck is going on???? EDIT: Current Update... It just magicly turned on. It might have been the power cord loose... Ill keep this updated.
Ballast could be going bad too. Is it on a timer box? I had a ballast go bad and it did this for awhile then failed all together...
I really oly bought this light/ballast 2 days ago... Its a brand new 600w Lumatek ballast. The light atm is still ON... so i hope it stays like that.
CURRENT UPDATE: Ok they turned back off... Now im sure there is somthing wrong. Could it be the ballast? its brand new!
Maybe the timer? Try plugging it straight into the wall. Edit: Vegging for 24/0 is ok, a lil stressfull on the plants I hear but I always considered not having an electrical spike for my company to detect a good thing.
Yeah.. i ust did that and now its back on. Maybe and hopefully it was the timer. Thanks! Lets just pray they stay on? for the love of smoke? xD
Just because it's new doesn't mean it works... Of the 12 ballasts I've bought over the years, 1 was a dud. 4 have failed after 2 years. I buy stuff with good warranties so I never had actually buy a new one, but I get new ones. Personally, I want them to fail before the warranty is up so I get a brand new one =)
This is off subject, but what is your oppinion of 24/0 vs 18/6 or 20/4? Personally, my sativa doms do just fine under 24/0 but my indica doms don't seem to grow as fast. I split the difference and go 20/4 and they all seem to grow about the same rate... This works for me since I grow many strains at the same time.
It's totally on subject... Its a lumatek and digi's have a long history of not working well with cheap timers so that was my diagnosis. The 24/0 veg info was to reasurehime that not using a timer will not do much harm to anything excempt maybe $10-$20 more on his light bill. If the timer was the problem then he will need to find one that works with his digi ballast before he starts flowering cuz it will be a bitch to do manually. Im not an electrician but from what I read the switch in cheap timers is too small and can get fried by digi ballasts, like a fuse or something.
Ok so i took out the timer.. and my light just turned off again. Im gonig to say its the ballast? WOW as im typing this it turns back on....
I have had a lot of timers fry on me with my digital... This is a pic of what I use and it seems to work well.
Take that shit back and get a refund. What's the brand? Is it a digital or analog? The analogs seem to be the longest running ballasts I've had, and my digitals have fried up on more than one occasion (no biggie since they have a 5 year warranty). I must say I still prefer my digitals since they use I can burn 2 600Ws for the same cost as (1) 1000W. I used a Kill-a-watt meter on my 1000w analog and it uses 1200W... What a waste... My digitals 600W uses 598W...
Thanks Ag... But ive narrowed it down to the ballast being fucked up... I guess ill just have to return it.
Take it back and make sure they run it long enough to see it fail...They should replace it or refund without any issues. If you're concerned about flowering too early, just throw a regular old light bulb over them. This is enough light to keep them from flowering, or screw up veg.
Or some flourecents T8's ? like the shop lights you can get at wal-mart for 15 to 20 bucks, CFLs just to keep the plants happy and in veg till you get a new ballast, sorry to hear about the problem I have been thinking about getting 2x 600w Quantums, I guess a dud happens every now and then. T8's T12's cant remember but they are the long tube flourecents that are used in schools. A regular bulb will cause your plants to stretch like crazy if it takes longer then a day.
Return that ballast it seems like a dud. They tend to always have 1-5 year warranties so it shouldn't be an issue to get an exchange. That's not the kind of problem you want to have with your light, that's for sure.
It's the ghost of a DEA agent that got fried tearing down a MMJ growers equipment. Take it back and get a new one... then tell stories about it to your grand-children.
