Hello all, recently purchased a 1000 watt air cooled light, the bulb is protected by the tube of glass that allows me to run cool air through. Well i had my light on 12/12 and on about the third day the light had shut off, the bulb was completley white, it also was hard to unscrew out of the reflector, i finally got the bulb out but pieces of broken glass fr0 the bulb came off. I know the bulb is junk obviously im getting a replacment one soon. Do you think this is because i didnt run a inline fan to cool the light? Any comments are greatly appreciated
Let me see if I understand. You had the bulb in a cool tube, but weren't actually cooling the tube? Then yes, I would say that you have found your problem. You probably overheated the bulb. Try to cool the replacement bulb and you probably won't have this problem again. Good luck.
thank you for the quick response, this set came with a 15ft cord plug in socket seperate with no actual reflector would i be able to use that for the time being and possible make a cheap reflector or does the 1000w always need to be cooled. I understand that it needs to be cooled while in the tube but what about not?
With a 1000w light, you're definitely going to want SOME KIND of ventilation. You can look in to rigging up a Stanley Blower Fan for exhaust if you're on a tight budget, or pop for a 6 or 8" inline fan and your problems will be solved. Air flow is very very important, and if you have some fans that you can use, I suggest using those as well.
You can run a 1000W bulb without air cooling it. Just make sure you take it out of the cool tub housing. However your grow room temps are going to suffer for it. Good luck.
I also have a cooltube and it clearly says on the instructions that you have to use some kind of fan or vent for cooling or else either the bulb or the tempered glass WILL break.
How hot is it in the grow room if your 1000 watter isn't cooled? I couldn't even imagine.... Because even CFL's will bring the temp up.
Im still waiting on the 1000 watt replacment bulb, its actually really cold ive had temp promblems struggiling to keep it higher fifties lower sixties. I have my 400 watt hps on for a back up right now.
i know 70ish is the best for ideal conditions its just really hard to do considering how cold it actually is.
^Zactly. The tube seals off the air circuit for the light from the grow space, but it does not have magic powers to actually cool the light, airflow does that.
