Life Mantras

Discussion in 'Philosophy' started by hazyyjane, Dec 7, 2012.

  1. There are certain mantras, quotes, or general ideas that resonate strongly with me, and that I like to keep in mind as I go about my day.

One of my favorites is following the path of "awareness, acceptance, and action".

    What are yours?

  2. The road less traveled is less traveled for a reason

...because not everyone can handle it

  3. Shit happens.

    Also, the first amendment.

  4. "Win some lose some."

    "Easy does it."

"Speak softly, carry a big stick. "

"Not everyone has heard this joke"

  5. "When life knocks you down do you know what we say to life?

    You hit like a bitch."

I definitely keep that one in mind.

Also this quote really gets me, I struggle a lot with making excuses.

"The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bullshit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can achieve it."

  6. om mani padme hum

  7. I do not think the grandeur of our perceivable existence is definable by mere words.

  8. It's funny, I can't call any to mind right now but I have a lot of them and I make note of it when I do.

The general theme is acceptance and the will to learn; self improvement and the aid of others. That sort of thing.

  9. Pretty good stuff man. I dig it.

  10. Gotta do what ya gotta do

  11. heheh. one of them is "man the fuck up" whenever i'm uncomfortable getting used to the temperature of the shower - i've stopped taking warm showers for the most part, for various reasons.

  12. I've a similar one that I repeat in my mind when I'm lifting. HTFU Harden the fuck up.

But I take half cold half warm showers. hehe

  13. I've begun thinking of myself in "tenses" - present me is the decision maker, and I often decide to have past me aid future me in something. For example, present me wants future me to be healthier so he decides to have past me invest some time and effort into becoming more healthy. I guess it just makes motivation easier, and a little more interesting. It's like I've put some cogs into place (each tense) and then anything i want to motivate myself to get done can just be fed into the machine :p

I'm not sure how I'd condense that to a mantra but it's just one of those little codes I've applied to my life in order to make me more proactive.

  14. Best I got is "keep on keepin on" but it doesn't capture it that well.

Anyway that's a really neat way to think man.

  15. Thanks, it just helps to get things done if I give myself a format to work with. I think cannabis regularly for giving me the gift of self reflection; it's allowed me to manipulate my lifestyle to suit my personality quirks. It's good fun, discovering yourself!

  16. If you always put limit on everything you do, physical or anything else. It will spread into your work and into your life. There are no limits. There are only plateaus, and you must not stay there, you must go beyond them.

    * Bruce Lee

We give dogs time we can spare, space we can spare and love we can spare. And in return, dogs give us their all. It's the best deal man has ever made.

    * M. Acklam

  17. A couple from Bob Marley

"You just can't live in that negative way, make way for the positive day!"

"Don't gain the world and lose your soul, wisdom is better than silver and gold"

  18. "The Devil was an angel, too."

  19. Hakuna Matata
