For every reaction there is an equal and opposite reaction. Gravity. Friction. Pressure. Temperature. Time. As science progresses we have figured much out about the physical world, but a question which 'Waking Life' poses remains unanswered, Where does free will fit into the equation? Quantum Mechanics which boils down to mere probabilities, doesn't explain much...u begin to wonder if there really is such a thing as free will though...or at least I do. I mean we all know life is a series of compromises, of choices, and there are many different theories about making life choices, in religion, philosophy, politics...but it's a puzzle, free will, and it's implications for everything...Consider this an open forum I guess. Feel free to discuss free will. And what u think about all this...I imagine this thread will get buried quickly, random and non-sensical as it is, soo do with it what u will ... Basically I'm asking, is life, a mere equation? No beginning nor end, balanced. In an equation both sides are equal. But, in math, there are imaginary numbers and the like, is that more of what the equation looks like: with this imaginary number concept, free will, added to the mix...
I mean theoretically it all balances out, with life and death being the two extreme yet balancing forces. It's so hard to see where the opposite reaction is to some of the choices we make are.
if you've ever watched a cat walk around without human influence for 10-20 minutes? sometimes i'll get stoned and watch my cat consistently sniff the same objects over again, walking around the basement in patterns, it makes me positive that animals do not have free will, and if this is possible, well i cant see why humans would be exceptions of such an equation. life.
I'm sorry but that's rediculous, he is simply taking in the world as he can. It's not like a cat can ask you what shit is. We have free will, I could jump out my window right now. I simply choose not to because as with every animal there are certianly good and bad ideas. So if you mean to say that I am stopped from jumping out of that window because of instincts and common sense then you're argument is full of shenanigans and tom foolery.
I don't know if I nessisarly believe this but I think it's possible people have free will within certain boundries. Within the first 5 years of life most of our learning is done, and in that we develop our traits. By our time now we have our traits and our heritatary traits. People must work within these traits but cannot exceed them, for instance, someone with a bad self esteem or security issues will most likely always have those problems if it is severe. They may not want to be, they will try not to be but everything they do will be influenced by these factors, and thats just one example that makes us up among many others. What I really question though is what you already said, the quantium part mention in Waking Life that says we may just be working gears. ^^Streetlight Manifesto kicks ass.
Hell yah about Streetlight Manifesto, but to the point, I mean all I am reading is that certain things will hold us back, but we can theoretically make a decision against our 'traits'. I too wonder about what you wonderabout (ps im way too high, I love college).
