lengthening days for plants...24/6

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by cannabutterking, Sep 12, 2012.

  1. So my question is if you gave the plants 24 hours light then six hours dark therefore lengthening the days and weeks I suspect. It would still have its night period could you expect better growth out the plant? This is just hypothetical.

You could with auto flower I guess. Auto plants r not photosensitive they get to a certain size or age and begin flowering regardless of the light schedule , but I believe most plants would revert back to veg.

Maybe u could extend the light period for an hour or two after flowering has begun sliding the timer 15 mins a day but I wouldn't try any more than that I case the plants revert.

  3. I pretty much have my plants on all the time in veg, they get turned off every now and then... I don't really think it matters much, as long as you keep them away from 12+ hr dark periods. Obviously photosynthesis only occurs with light, some claim dark periods help root development but I guess there's good studies out there that show better roots with 24hr light... Either way, I don't think there's a huge difference, so long as you keep them out of flower. The "cycle" isn't as important in veg imo

Its hypothetical I might experiment on it but I only plan on doing this for veg.

Ah I see, if you jus mean veg then you could run 24/7, unless you like to foliar feed then you should turn the lights off until the leaves dry

  6. I may get some auto seeds an try running 2 on 12/12 an 2 on 24/7 an see if it's possible and what difference it make. Could be an interesting experiment cuttin time from seed to bud. Hmm wonder if anyone else has tried this

What I mean is 24 hour days and give it six hours dark then another 24 on light

Ye I follow, I'm just saying you might as well go 24/7. But ye 24 on 6 off will also work

  9. you could technically just turn the lights on for 30 minutes every six hours or so, that would keep it in veg... doubt it would grow much tho, without much light to do photosynthesis, may not even have enough energy to live.

Ok cool sorry I thought you might not be following me I asked a buddy the same question and he didn't follow

Everytime I read your name I wanna say "yeah" idk why I think it might be a song I heard on tv.. lol

But yeah they would probably die. I'm thinking about experimenting with 20 on 6 off. I think its gonna be a pain without a second timer but imma try keeping track of it lol

  12. haha you're thinking of the outkast song hey ya!

I can't think of a single thing 20/6 would effect besides fucking up your day

Wouldn't turning the lights off when the leaves are wet increase chances of mold? I'm just gonna run 20/4 on all my plants ill veg the freebies till the autos get harvested then flip to 12/12

  15. there's a urban legend that you'll burn holes in your leaves because the light doesn't change positions like the sun

I think this came from someone spraying with nutes and those burned the leaves, was mistaken for light damage or something

never had an issue with my plants, indoor or out

  16. I know what you're speaking off, there have been other people who have tried the same thing on these forums too. I remember people trying 30 hour days. I don't think there was a huge difference though, I know there were some claims about faster growth but I don't think I've seen anything proving it.

Personally I think that it will just be extra work for yourself, since you can't acclimate the plant to flower with more than 12 hours of daylight, I can't see it being beneficial.

  17. I think another reason to foliar feed at night is because the stomata open more therefore more respiration takes place, I read it somewhere but I don't know for sure.
Never foliar spray bud coz then you probably will get mould but veg should be fine . I foliar spray at night once a week and I never get mould . Hope i don't jinx myself now. Lol
