Legal weed in Alabama.

Discussion in 'Marijuana Legalization' started by StealMyName, Apr 5, 2013.

1. WOW, is all I can say....Alabama of all places. The problem of course being it requires this act to be voted in.....The positive side is someone went through a great deal of trouble writing this legislation. Maybe Alabama realizes that the federal government is not going to be supplimenting it for too much longer and could use the added income....WOW

2. Everyone in the state should be sending their letters in(even though a vote is still needed this will still help). We need to end this ridiculous prohibition.

3. I only skimmed through the bill but it isn't looking too good.

4. Most likely this proposed law will fail in Alabama. The straw that will break the camel's back is a provision that states anyone with a perscription for medical marijuana cannot be discriminated against/fired for failing a marijuana drug test. The ultra-right wing business lobby Chamber of Commerce will NEVER allow this to pass.

5. Very few worth-while causes succeed on the first try! If you fail the first time, you just redouble your efforts and try again!

We all know that the law will most likely not pass, but sending in those letters and signing the petition will still get us one step closer to the law being passed. There are only 912 sigs on the petition(which is ridiculous) the lazy sit-on-their-ass stoners here need to wake the fuck up and sign the fucking petition. It pisses me off when i hear people saying "oh they need to legalize blah blah blah" and not doing a fucking thing to contribute to the cause there are sick people here in Alabama depending on us to take action on this for them.
Sign the petition here: Sign the Online Petition for HB-550, The Alabama Cannabis and Hemp Reform Act of 2013 |
Post this link all over your facebooks so everyone can have knowledge of this. There are a lot of people who don't even know this bill exist so we need to spread the word.

7. Yeah that has no chance of ever going through this time around. This damn state is so behind the times it's rediculous. Some places in my area are just now accepting debit cards lol. I don't see these hick fucks allowing legalization anytime soon.

Hell my damn county was dry(no alcohol) until about two years ago, and even now places still don't sell alcohol on Sundays. Weed is the devil down here in the south.

8. People in the larger cities (mobile, montgomery, birmingham) are more accepting of cannabis. Where I live it's just a common thing for people to smoke. I can understand about those backwoods areas though, those people are like the people from the movie Wrong turn lmao

9. Idk man even Huntsville is strict as hell. Birmingham I can see, but that's a fuckibg dump anyway.

10. As an Alabama resident I can tell you even if 80% of people agree to this(which they wouldn't) the leaders in the government would not allow this to occur

You get over 75% of the folks agreeing on something, and the leaders don't want it, you end up with enough unhappy voters who will vote the "gentlemen" OUT OF OFFICE! Get your friends registered to vote!

You need to comment in the local news and share articles like these- READ THEM! :yay:

You have to show folks that cannabis can benefit THEM! Until it becomes personal, they won't listen!

Granny

12. I agree. They are far too strict about ganja around this dump of a state. Hoping for the best but expecting the worst I guess.

13. let's not get negative, guys!  let's keep it going!!!  This is how it starts!

14. I am going to show you how to present one of those articles to make it personal (Sorry- school is out for the summer and I am having "educational withdrawal" - I gotta teach! lol)

Everyone fears Alzheimer's. Right now, the leading pharmaceutical drug for Alzheimer's is Aricept. This is what MOST folks don't know about Aricept, and THC from marijuana!

Marijuana May Slow Alzheimer's      (WebMD - 2006)
http://www.webmd.com/alzheimers/news/20061006/marijuana-may-slow-alzheimers   (I'd remove the URL if posting a comment in the news- most places don't like URLs)

“THC blocks an enzyme called acetylcholinesterase, which speeds the formation of amyloid plaque in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. The Alzheimer's drugs Aricept and Cognex work by blocking acetylcholinesterase. When tested at DOUBLE the concentration of THC, Aricept blocked plaque formation only 22% as well as THC, and Cognex blocked plaque formation only 7% as well as THC.”

Now who, in their right mind, would use Aricept, if you could grow your own free THC in the form of  legal cannabis? :confused_2:

And what cannabinoids like THC and CBD can do when a brain is threatened by Alzheimer's, is amazing! You can learn more about it by finding a copy of "Granny Storm Crow's List" on line and doing a little reading!

So what do you folks in Alabama think would happen if that got to be common knowledge? Here's an old-fashioned herbal medicine (that was quite popular until 1937) that can slow down Alzheimer's almost TEN TIMES BETTER than the leading prescription drug!

And I recently read an article about diabetes being really prevalent is the South...You should read about what CBD (cannabidiol) can do for diabetics- without even getting them high! It's all in my List! (See the bottom of my sig to get your free copy)

Once the medical facts about cannabis become known, the need for legalization becomes obvious! We just have to keep educating everyone -over and over until they get the idea! If it is just me out there educating, I can easily be dismissed as a "crazy lady". But if other voices chime in citing different studies and articles about cannabis, then we get folks thinking! :yay:

Progress IS possible! Remember, when I was a young hippie, Timothy Leary got a total of 20 years for 2 roaches containing an "unsmokable amount" of marijuana, in California (1968)!   Now, in 2013, anyone can walk around with an ounce in their pocket and the worst they could get is a $100 fine :smoke:   (outside of school zones, of course).

Being 65, I have a better perspective on just how far we have come!

15. Awesome work granny! Figure out how to get Foxnews to repeat some of that knowledge and every state in the south would be legalized by the next election.

It takes people like us to educate others about it. Sitting around complaining that it won't pass WILL NOT make any progress towards legalization. Sometimes if you want something done you have to do it yourself.. Get people aware of it and educate them! Get a large amount of energy and steam behind this measure and the lawmakers will act upon it(provided they are wanting to remain in office that is..).
It takes people to make things happen. If you are going to whine about it get up and do something about it, because if you don't you have no room to complain!

Brotherrob,  we have "moles" at FOX!  There are a few open-minded people there sneaking in the occasional pro-cannabis article!

Even FOX gets it right now and then!     Perhaps Dr. Manny Alvarez, who was doing the 2012 piece, should get some recent pro-cannabis abstracts!  Look for the names in the articles and tell them that you loved the article! Nothing gets an author writing more of the same than a goodly dose of praise! :yay:

And stoned4sure is right! Unless YOU get busy, I'm stuck doing it all by my lonesome!

And listen up! I'm in California. I am legal medically and grow my own- I have it made! I got nothing to fight for :smoke:  ..... except YOUR RIGHT TO USE CANNABIS! And I am fighting, yet the closest connection to Alabama that I have, is that my Great-Great-Grandfather who died in the Civil War was from Black's Bluff (near Marengo)! If I can care enough to fight for you all, can't you care enough to fight for your own rights?

Write your politicians! (Throw a little "political party"- a few friends, a few joints and beers, then everyone emails those "bone-headed" politicians to politely educate them! :D  http://www.alabama.gov/portal/secondary.jsp?sid=government  )

Make comments in the news! Lots of folks get their info online now!

Leave print ups of the articles I listed above in laundromats, student lounges, or other places bored people gather!

VOTE!!!

Get busy! :yay:

18. WOW! You just mentioned "wrong turn" and I have been trying to find the name of the movie ever since I first saw it and forgot the name... I had a feeling that Wrong Turn was the movie I was thinking of... sure enough... THANK YOU :)
