I know bee keeping can be profitable.. But what else can someone do to be self employeed instead of just workin as another slave.. I know writing is another good possibility.
Taking a hobby you like and turning it into a business to make some profit is always a good idea. If you have a big enough market and a good idea, then all you need is to pitch your idea to some investors and bingo! you can start doing something you'd actually like to do.

I've often thought that a way to do this was to start a business yourself, on the basis of it being a service that you can do/perform just by purchasing and owning the equipment. Like say - Carpet cleaning. Yeah there's outlay, and it would be competitive - but really so is any business. All you'd have to do is have shit-hot rates, know how to pimp your business and occasionally do a promotion.
