Legal Grower

Discussion in 'Seasoned Marijuana Users' started by Loner Stoner, Aug 28, 2008.

  1. So, being a college student in the 2nd year I have to decide on a major and eventually will chose a career. But I was like, fuck a real job I want to grow weed... but then I heard something that made me feel good: a real job that includes growing medical grade marijuana.

Does anyone know how to become a legal grower? Like do you need licenses, do you work for a company? What gives? I will major in botany if I must. I just think that would be the greatest job ever, to wake up and drive to the grow house, lol. To research and cross breed all kinds of shit for the rest of your life and make money for it. Sounds win win to me.

Please someone give me more info on this profession... :hello:

  2. That is fucking insane. I never knew you could g to school for that sorta stuff!!! And glassblowing? awesome....:D

  3. you need to move to a state that has a MMJ program in place.

I think texas would be the last state to pass such a thing.

  4. I was going to suggest www.oaksterdamuniversity.com, also you could study plant breeding and genetic engineering.

Or you could get a PhD in public policy like Jon Gettman and fight for your right to legally grow marijuana.

Here are the most recent guidelines to stay legal with marijuana in California http://ag.ca.gov/cms_attachments/press/pdfs/n1601_medicalmarijuanaguidelines.pdf
..it outlines who can legally grow and how to do it to stay within the law.

check out section IV B. 7. for growing guidelines.

Unfortunately federal law doesn't recognize these rules yet.

    edit:
oops.. I didn't notice you weren't in CA

  5. yeah I agree. Texas is sooo conservative. I have like one semester left until I get an Associate degree. I will then use my GI bill to go to school in California I'm hoping. But does it matter where you go to school? Or just where you work at after you get your schooling?

  6. Actually scratch all that...

After I get my MBA, I think I'll apply for Oaksterdam University. Wow, so my dream really can come true. I can either work in a marijuana dispensiary, grow, or blow glass... That is so sweet. And it looks like this school is completed in 2 years. Not bad, I don't mind spending ten years in school if the end result is I get to grow weed, take my business degree and start my own dispensiary, sweet!!!

  7. Yes. You can be a caregiver in Cali if you follow the rules and pay certain taxes. You can then legally sell to people with a medical card.

But actually making a living is probably hard.

The problem is breaking into the business if you're a new grower. It helps if you know someone that runs a good dispensary and will definitely buy from you. Otherwise, it's pretty hard to sell enough buds legally.

Then there's the pesky DEA that will jump on you if you're too successful.

It's my dream job too but it's probably as demanding as any business. Maybe even more so due to the restrictions.

  8. Its a start though. At least its possible. As far as being successful, I think talent will ultimately gain you notiriety. If you are known for growing only top THC percentage plants, then I'm sure more dispensiaries will buy from you. But in my case, since I will also have a business degree I was thinking of openening my own dispensiary in an area where there are people with cards but the nearest one is like more than ten miles away from where they live. That way I supply my own product, and it is pure profit. After paying hefty taxes, building costs, etc... It'd probably take 2-3 years to break even. But after that it seems it would be a great business especially if it is run AND supplied by one person.

  9. I guess you'll study some marketing in your MBA? ..that'll probably be essential especially for when you're trying to get into the market

  10. yeah. If none of this works out I will pursue marketing/sales for some Forbes Top 500 company. All about the money. That way I'll build up a nice pention and use that to start growing. but it seems like classes at this university for pot growing isn't a bad idea either way. At least I can perfect my growing ability, whether I decided to pursue the dispensiary job or not.
