LED red 660 nm question

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Indoors' started by EAPaaron19, Oct 27, 2020.

  1. In your opinion for flowering does having the extra strip of 660 red nm make a difference on top of having the white colored samsung lm301h nodes? Versus not having the red 660 nm at all? If so what differences does it make? Do you prefer to have it or not have it?

  2. I have both. The rspec is almost becoming standard on the 3000k. Price is one thing, but for a pure cannabis flowering light, my favorite so far is the 3000k/301h/rspec. But my old 301b/straight 3000k beats any other flowering light I have used, except the 301h/rspec. I have a 3500krspec in storage, but I don't like it. Give me pure 4000k for veg and 301h/3000k/rspec for flower. If you have a deal on 301b or straight 3000k, you can build a great light. But me, having used both, would hold out for 301h/rspec. Probably only the grower will know the difference. The red strip makes enough difference that I don't really want it near my vegging autos.
I am not a tech light guy. I just comment on how my mainlined long veg autos do under different lights. But I have been using the straight without red 3000k for flowering now for about as long as hlg started selling them. And it is superb. The newer 301h and rspec only makes a perfectly good light slightly better. I think if you hold out for 301h/rspec, in the end you will be satisfied. But don't pass up a good deal over the strip.

  3. My $99 QB has the 660's and also 730's. In a 2x2. So far it's outperforming the HLG 550 v2rspec that does not have the extra 730's. Either it's a freak plant (very possible) or it loves the redder light. No probs with the HLG, plants now are right where they were first run, which was great. But the gal under the cheap light is simply exploding. 150w driver set at 121w actual draw. Not even samsung led's. Refond whites and Osram reds.

  4. Interesting takes so far. Price isn't an issue. I got a source where either plain 3000K light or 3000k with rspec are the same price for me. I just want to know if the R spec makes a difference.

And what difference is the added rspec making exactly? Does it make the buds bigger? Or what does it do?

  5. Marginal . I just watched a video on this topic .
I suggest you go to you tube .

  8. It is sold as a bud development stimulation. Since I grow autos, not really interested. Yes, you can watch the Bugsbee youtube on light. I'm actually doing a side by side right now, one 3000k and one 3000krspec on the same plant, if I can stop rotating it. These lights have been very difficult for me to figure out. I have run them at 100w and 130w and 18 inches and 24 inches. This all happened when covid interrupted my medium supply and I switched back to peat. Now it's even getting hard to find from my regular places. So, it was difficult for me to interpret how much was light, and how much was me getting my calcium levels regulated. Like I said, I have now quite a few boards, all 120's, and I just bought a new one, 3000k rspec.

  9. My favorite lights, believe it or not.

    V1 lm561c 2700K's

Not R-Spec, no extra diodes, just a very red spectrum to start with.
Sometimes the camera really picks it up as in this pic below.

The plants under them have the fattest, longest, juiciest buds almost everytime without fail, even over my 3000K R-Specs

  10. What wattage are you running and how many inches above the canopy?

  11. That tent has 3x600W kits (6 x 300 watt panels, 800 diodes per panel, 4800 diodes total), but I only ever run it about 65% draw. I just recently purchased an inline power meter, but I have not put it on that tent to see what 65% actually draws. The drivers are combination constant current/constant voltage auto switching, so just using percentages may not be totally accurate. If it is linear on a scale/graph, then I would say I run around 1250W-1300W in that tent

As far as height, I am typically 18"-20" above the plants. That shot may have been taken after lifting the lights to water....

  12. Anyone fill me in on what will be the physical difference in my buds with a 3000k vs 3000k + rspec?

  13. No, not really. It's all on paper. You gotta have faith they know what they are talking about. The same people who told me qb would grow good pot told me rspec is an improvement for bud development. I never know what they are talking about anyway. I figure, if they were right on that, they are right on this.
