I just got my new full time position so i plan to invest in growing more. I understand LEd are energy savers and less heat. But i hear HID are good for high yields. But Would a 400 watt LED do just as good as 400 Watt HID? Help a noob out. Only grew one plant before and it was off a 75 watt plant light that costed 6 bucks and got a little over 2 o's. Don't know much so please help ya boy
I don't think the led are half a good as the hps lamps. I use two six hundo hps lamps and the end product is INSANELY AWESOME. Hps are cheaper also if I remember correctly. IMO if someone is gonna go through all the stress of growing ganja you may as well get the stuff that works the best and produces the most. Whats the cheapest for a metal hallide and HPS with a reflective hood, you think? And What do you need to get an HID running. It seems complicated with stuff like a ballast and stuff. Lol And would the power bill be too much more with a 400 watt HID?
What is the price range if i were to get a ballast, reflective hood, and an HPS and Metal hallide bulb? And do you still get a good yield if you were just to use a HPS Light for both vegging and flowering the whole time. I heard you need to use Metal hallide for vegging and HPS for flower but what if i just used HPS?

just HPS works fine for veg. MH just achieves tighter internode lengths which results in what would appear to be tighter top colas HPS fine in my opinion until you save up for MH bulb *cough*digilux*cough*
So what all do i need to get a HPS running besides the hood? Just a ballast that can withstand 400 watts? And what kind of reflective hood's socket will an HPS fit in? I watched a video and it said they don't fit in regular sockets. Lol i know this is a good bit a questions. Just need to know before i buy shit that i don't know how to hook up
leds will produce better more dense buds.. u save 65% on energy bill and loose maybe 10-15% yield... very much worth it to me... and I have seen 10-11 oz off ONE PLANT with an experienced LEd grower. and for most leds they are full spectrum meaning u don't need to change any light for veg bloom. one light that will last 10+ years unlike hps having to buy new bulbs every other grow. use the same light for seedling til harvest. easy to use. no heavy venting needed. led all the way. pay a lil more for the initial investment but it will be much much more worth it in the long run
leds produce dence buds? my 1000 watt hps pulls some pretty dence buds man i honestly couldnt imagin leds makeing that dence of bud but i wouldnt know i have never grow with leds.
As for your "how much money" question, under $200 of a switchable MH/HPS light kit isn't impossible to find, and takes away your concern about them not fitting regular sockets and whatnot. IMO if money wasn't tight I would love to try one of the top notch LEDs. Power consumption and heat can't possibly be as low as they are hyped since electricity generates heat regardless. If it's rated using real numbers consumption and heat will still be there but a wider spectrum and lack of needing to replace your bulb every 5-6months are the big pluses I personally see for LEDs, plus lets face it...... they're prettier lol. Sometime after the new year I'll hopefully scoop at least the 400w solar storm unit to use as either supplemental or maybe even primary light source for the few plants I grow at a time. $2 per watt vs HID being what like $0.10 per watt is really the only downfall I've been able to find about quality LED units but $30-$80 per bulb 2 or 3 times a year with a HID set up can even the price difference out eventually. Power saved offsetting the cost, like some people say just doesn't make sense to me unless you're using some of the grossly over rated LED specs but like has been proven over and over again..... the cheap LEDs that claim to use 1/4 of the power but provide enough energy to mimic a 400/600/1kw HID are full of shit. Clff notes. If start up costs are a concern stick with hps/mh but if you can afford to drop a substantial bit of cash *personally I would* look into the quality LEDs.
Unless you can dish out the money for a quality LED grow light you won't got a good yield. If you can though LEDs can produce awesome plants.
HID have standard sockets, most of the ones nowadays have 220V cords or the standard 11o cords. I would go HID 6" hood with digital ballast. 6" ducting with an inline fan pulling hot air from hoods. Ushio HPS bulb/s and good to go. This setup to get going is prob around: hood-decent one-110 bulb-80 ballast-160 in-line fan-120ish ducting-10ish with clamps so expect about 500 id say for full setup. you may be able to get by with a mere duct booster if your only running 1 600. any more tho and id recommend an inline fan. What the average price for a 400 watt LED? And im trying to not spend much over 300 . Lol im just wanting a plant or two and get at least 1.5 oz per plant. Im just wanting some free bud for personal consumption, not to sell. So im not trying to profit off of it. I dont.want to spend much if im not selling.
